These songs are the
last recordings of my cousin, Matthew Todd Young who passed away recently.
He lived Nov 20, 1975 through Apr 21, 2005.
He would have been thirty years old this year. It is enough to say that he was way too young.
Matthew was a passionate musician. He lived, breathed and slept music. He and I (
www.myspace.com/dustyoday )
have been a rhythm section since 1992, when we first began
jamming together. We played in several groups and venues in Galveston and
Houston. Matt
made quite a contribution to the music scene here. He
was always about the groove...
He was also about to graduate from COM with an
associates in Communications, and was planning to
follow up at U of H to get his bachelors. The acceptance
letter and a note telling him he could participate in
graduation are still sitting on his desk.
Matt was always down to help people. He had a way with children
and the elderly, from his medical experience. Matt worked in home health care,
and was a certified
paramedic. He went on mission trips to Mexico and
Belize and while in Mexico, he delivered a baby. The family
named the baby “Matthewâ€, after him. He was a scuba diver, and an
artist who loved to paint. But above all, his passion
was music
The last gig we played together was at the Balinese
room in Galveston, a venue we played many times. Matt was always down
to play drums on short notice. Sadly, the band split up
and the Balinese gig ended up being our last venue. We had a lot of good
times there.
Rest Easy Matthew...
Your music lives on in my heart...
