Oprah and the Apostle Paul in the Bible
I think I'm in between genres right now. I grew up in the generation that started the urban rap phenomenon and I enjoy hearing that old school stuff sometimes. You know stuff that makes you laugh now, like The Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow and other rap industry pioneers. My upbringing also roots me in the the Baptist church and the hymns that I sung wantonly as a child I have now grown to love. I enjoy a very diverse music experience. I love contemporary praise & worship songs found in most pentecostal churches. And I can sometimes be found driving to the tunes of Michael Buble, salsa, calypso, and hip-hop.
I went to see Dr. Suess's Horton Hears a Who on Friday! I saw the Great Debaters a few days after Christmas. It was cool. I didn't realize that it was going to have so much of the historic piece to it. I enjoyed that. Of course Denzel played a good part!I thought Why Did I Get Married was a great movie. I know the acting was fair to bad, but just to have an African-American movie that deals with some of the real issues of marriage in a positive light, I thought was amazing! We need to have more movies like that to balance out some of the buckwild that's been out there in theaters. I applaud Tyler Perry for always standing for the family while at the same time keeping it real about what our family experiences truly consist of.
Oprah's Big Give is very inspiring to me at the moment. It helps me to realize that people can do things to help other people even though they may have limited finances and limited time. Amazing things can happen when we are willing to work together and give of ourselves.
I just read Blue Like Jazz over the Christmas holiday. It is an amazing read. Donald Miller is so funny, so real and so profound. Last summer I read Searching For God Knows What also by Donald Miller. It too was amazing.
People who rise above. People who continue on. People who overcome. People who endure. People who live for Jesus Christ.
