I notice a common thread that I find in my list of favorite movies, although I can't explain it and I doubt that anyone who isn't me could see it. I am incapable of pinning myself down to any one particular favorite anything. I'm better at having a favorite type, which in my mind holds to a theme or concept or belief.
Like that Julia Roberts fairly consistently in my mind plays the same character, I often like her characters and her movies, although, none of either would be a favorite.
Portrait of a Lady, with Nicole Kidman & John Malcovich, or Great Expectations, with Ethan Hawke & Gwyneth Paltrow, definitely rank high on my list of favorite movies.
Living Out Loud, with Holly Hunter, I don't know how many times I could watch that movie and always love it.
Foxfire, with Hedy Burress & Angelina Jolie, is high up too.
There could be a lot more movies like "Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her".
The Thomas Crown Affair, the one with Pierce Brosnan & Rene Russo, is impeccable.
Almost everyone who I've heard mention "The Pillow Book", with Ewan McGregor, have not enjoyed it like I have. (I think I'm really interested in handwriting though?)
I've rented "Niagara Niagara" enough times that I should have bought it, if I could ever find it, I would.
Recently I've been renting tv on DVD. I've been watching Six Feet Under, which I'm thoroughly impressed and amazed with the character development and interaction. It gives me new perspective on life, on death–how we cope. I've also started watching OZ and Nip/Tuck. Both of those are more entertaining than inspiring, but they're better than a lot of broadcast tv.
As for regular tv, I watch more public broadcast and documentaries or home improvement and landscaping type shows than sit coms. Concerts or history or science or nature type. I like ER & West Wing.
Sometimes I'll watch one of the reality shows like American Idol or the Apprentice, but I don't care enough to remember when they're on. I like watching the Extreme Makeover ones sometimes.
