Headless Horseman Records (HHR) is an independent record label based in Washington, DC, that currently houses bands hailing from DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia. The label came into being in 2003 when its flagship band, Run Silent Run Deep (RSRD), emerged on the DC music scene. RSRD found a kindrid spirit in loud and complex rock in Baltimore's The Fallen One, and the two bands formed a mutual admiration. While on tour in 2005, RSRD was impressed by Philadelphia outfit North Star Infinite and its penchant for progressive and hard rock--so much so that RSRD decided that every time they hit Philadelphia on subsequent outings, it had to be with the mighty North Star Infinite. Back home in DC, RSRD most enjoyed sharing the stage with The Alphabetical Order, with its blend of mid-90s altrock and DC post-hardcore, and The Dance Party, known for its high-wattage pop-punk and frenetic performances.
Thus, Headless Horseman Records was officially born in late 2005 in order to put Run Silent Run Deep, The Fallen One, North Star Infinite and The Alphabetical Order under one roof. We assist them in marketing their music, booking out-of-town shows and setting up tours.
Some, not all, of the things we look for in our bands:
1) Quality original music. It's okay to have influences. It's not okay to sound exactly like them. We especially like bands that aren't afraid to stray from the old and tired 4/4.
2) Bands that are so good live we don't want to go to the bar for another drink because we don't want to miss a minute of the show.
3) Bands who play outside their own area and work DAMN hard at getting their music heard.
If you would like to send us a press kit please message or email us first.
* FYI, we are happy to help new bands starting out in the DC area or bands coming thru DC that need booking assistance. Thats not saying we'll get you a show but we'll try to help you with venue contacts and other bands to play shows with.
