The sea thieves are Naomi Thompson and Zac Coligan,
an independent band from Adelaide, South Australia. In our music you will hear the pluck of the ukulele,
the wheezing of bellows and the singing of a saw.We like to use old sounds to create something new.It all started in 2003 when Zac’s band Bergerac ended,
leaving behind three EP’s, two albums and a nine year history
of live shows.
This included two performances at the Big Day Out
and supports with the Breeders, Pavement and Elastica
to name a few.We then formed our own band under the moniker “Eiderdownâ€
and in late 2004 released “Summer Of The Red Wolfâ€.
Various tracks from this recording were aired regularly on local radio
and nationally on Triple J.This was always seen as a simple introduction to our music,
yet the positive and genuine response from our friends and peers
gave us the push to continue and improve. Our next step was to record a debut album. So, after a year and a half of tinkering at the Jade Monkey studio
and home, we proudly present “hiding in the shadeâ€.
This record is a collection of dusty samples and old instruments,
imperfect songs with all the mistakes included.“hiding in the shade†is out now on Inertia/Pouring Rain Records. We hope you enjoy it.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4Adelaide natives The Sea Thieves have created a timeless atmosphere on their stunning debut ‘Hiding In The Shade’.
A beautifully simple record. Nine humble, intimate and achingly blissful songs captured by Zac Colligan + Naomi Thompson with only a few basic microphones and imbued with the echo of wooden floorboards and bluestone walls.
On their debut record you will hear the wheezing of bellows, the pluck of the ukulele and the singing of a saw. This recording breathes with the sounds of the outside. The Sea Thieves are a band that like to use old sounds to create something new.
A genuine diamond!!
There’s a type of record I always reach for late at night – something that suits the hour, that won’t disturb the neighbours, and that will help calm down my cluttered mind. The Sea Thieves are absolutely perfect for this. This is a gorgeous, assured and beautifully produced song. I love the band’s name too. There’s real talent on display here. I can’t wait to check out their album.Chris Taylor (The Chaser) JJJ Unearthed Guest Reviewer
Listening to music by The Sea Thieves has the gentle power to take you to a laid back place that almost feels like it's from another time. Using unique instruments, like the piano accordion, ukulele and a singing saw they build an atmosphere that creaks and bends like an old swing in your grandmother's garden. Blissful stuff.Triple J Unearthed – Feature Artist
