Bursting forth from a cloud of purple smoke and heavenly lights, Norman Oklahoma band The Neighborhood came into existence sometime in the fall of 2004. The trio stumbled out of the haze disoriented and confused, but unified in their one desire: to create great music.
In the two years since this explosive beginning, The Neighborhood (members: Matt Duckworth, Eric Mai, and Philip Rice) has matured into a successful young band with a loyal fanbase and a captivating live show. Some of their songs will enchant you with their angelic melodies, and others will bring you straight to the front of the stage, forcing you to move to their erratic, energetic dance rock beats.
Their sound defies genres – it's experimental yet accessible; powerfully orchestral, but never pretentious. It can be enjoyed just as easily surrounded by candles in darkness as in the middle of a sweaty, dancing mass of people – and is best played loudly in either case.
The Neighborhood spent a year and a half recording their first full length release with Trent Bell (The Flaming Lips, The Starlight Mints) and have just begun selling it and playing shows to support it.
