VIOLIN, THEREMIN, E.VIOLIN, CASTANETS, WOOD PERCUSSION
Born 1981, London - raised in Rota, Cadiz.
Started classical violin training on my move to England.
I play a wide variety of music mainly concentrating on improvising, playing with amongst others Charlie Collins, John Jasnoch, Martin Archer, Mick Beck, Pat Thomas, J.D. Parran and Phillip Thomas.
The theremin is an important part of my musical expression, using it on its own but also expanding the range with the use of electronic effects. The Beatrix Ward-Fernandez Trio performed at Hands Off 2007.
I am currently a member of The Navigators (with Charlie Collins and John Jasnoch), The Beatrix Ward-Fernandez Trio (with Derek Saw and Charlie Collins), Swift Are the Winds of Life (with Yvonna Magda and Charlie Collins), Mick Beck’s large ensemble The Gated Community and ASK, playing through out the U.K.
My influences are varied: from the deeply enchanting Claude Debussy and John Surman, Bela Bartok, Dirty Three and the great Leroy Jenkins, to the punching sound of Nick Cave and my Southern Spanish background - I can always be tempted with a bit of flamenco or a chirigota or two.
I want to explore the outer limits for the use of music, sound and words.
All my pieces are unique creations born of the space around me at the time. They are one with their environment seducing the listener to a world not visited by others. I transmit their voices through my playing giving them the freedom of that time and place.
