BIO
Hailing originaly from Chicago Heights, Ill a lower middle class city just south of Chicago, M.Rex aka Phil Gates has been grinding in the rap game for a while now being that he is only 21. During his younger years he moved around several times to other cities just south of Chicago. This would foreshadow the rest of his life. His home life was artistic, and loving early on but, at the age of 11 his father and mother divorced . This would eventually lead to him having to become the man of his household. Instilled with leadership qualities he took on the same tasks of a man outside of the home. Though he still knew his father their relationship had now shifted from one of mentorship to one of authority. After hearing rappers like Wu-Tang Clan, and Biggy, Twista and Do Or Die his mind was set. Surprisingly rapping came easy to M.Rex, and soon he and a few junior high friends had a group. At the age of 16 he released a Compilation album city-wide under his own record label (Soundlab Records)entitled "Mjeztyck 3". It Featured other Chicago Artists such as Shorty K, X-plicit, and Bling Bli$$, and was featured on a Chicago movie soundtrack entitled "Shop Talk". Always with the mindstate of grind-Time M. Rex has ventured into production as well as management. "Honestly, I feel that I am A self-contained machine in this game." Rex says. Mr. Gates first met up with 730 in late 2003 after trying out college for one year, in order to recieve probation for a robbery charge he had caught back home. Although he has returned many times to visit he never returned to live at home after his chance meeting and has been OT ever since. Whether it is D.C., Chicago,New York, Philly, Houston or Baltimore M. Rex is connected. He has grinded everywhere. In 2006 he co-produced and made an appearance on fellow 730 Commission bandmate and Babygrande recording artist DK's mixtape "King Me", which was hosted by Dj Kay Slay as well as dipset/Purple City's Sheist Bubz. Using his knowledge of the mixtape game Rex along with DK moved over 40,000 units worldwide. M.Rex was also honored that his record "The Corner" which was produced for DK was named one of the hottest beats of 2006. Despite their success, and after a few legal hurdles M.Rex dissolved their business relationship over unpaid mangement fees. He then decided to regroup and release his own mixtape. In a personal interview Rex was questioned about a supposed rift in his 730 clique, and simply stated that, "730 IS A CLIQUE OF BOSSES. We are a family, and families have arguments. We get money together, but we all got our own goals".
Now Beginning in the summer of 2007 M. Rex is releasing his long awaited solo debut mixtape entitled: "Mr. OT Radio Vol. 1: Nationwide Hustla".
