HOTKOPI is a Surabaya based freaky rock band that combines the experimental chord of jazz, the pocket of funk, and the exploring rhythms of Indonesian ethnic sound into musical exclamations and other creative performances. HOTKOPI was formed in April 2004, firstly only for fun and the name of band was chosen just because of the same preference in drinking coffee in one coffee booth in Surabaya. At that time Anto' (guitar and vocal) and Henz (keyboard and vocal) and Ecko (bass) recruited some of their friends; Henokh (drum) to complete the band formation. Later, Indy was taken as an additional vocal and next, the 5 started to practice music seriously. With the difference music background, they played various songs from various legendary artists such as Koes Plus, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Beatles, Deep Purple, Spin Doctor, Muddy Water, etc. After performing in several events in Surabaya, they got bored and tried to make their own works. At last, at the end of 2005 they succeed to explore jazz, rock, rhythm n’ blues, funk and traditional in their mini album. Though they are still seeking in what genre is their music, they keep trying to develop their musical quality and intensity and hope their existence can be admitted and accepted by the people of Indonesia.
