WES’Li (Wesley Louissaint) « Montreal’s new revelation» Yves Bernard, ICI. Wes’li’s versatility is amazing! Not only does he play all the different styles of music, he is also making a name for himself as a singer-songwriter, arranger, musical director and music producer, with the acoustic guitar as well as the electric guitar.He co-produced and co-wrote the album Garde la tête haute / Audiogram 2005 from singer-songwriter Senaya (nominated for the best francophone album at the 2006 Juno Awards). He co-produced and co-wrote Aube / Agape Musique 2006, a first album from singer-songwriter and choreographer Sara Rénélik and he participated as co-producer, songwriter and guitarist on the artist Ousmane’s first solo album Sincérité Volontaire / Magaphone/HLM/DEP 2006 among others.At the age of 19 that Wesley seriously starts playing guitar with his afro roots jazz quartet 4ever. Together they perform in Cafe,Clubs,Bars,Hotel and many other places in Haiti. It is in this context that his incomparable spiritual gift as a solo artist is discovered. In 2001, Wes’li is hired by the company Kreol Mizik with which he travels and tours everywhere from the Antilles to France in the company of some of the biggest artists of the Antilles namely Jacky Rapon, Lea Galva, Jocelyn Delormeau, Thierry Cam, Leila Chico, Sonia Dersion and the late Edith Leyfel. Then, with the help of his father and older brother to continue his career.Wesley joined a soul/R&B band called Sokute. This group, with whom he records an album, becomes all the rage in Haiti.When Wes’li lands in Montreal. As soon as he arrives, he starts working closely with the Productions Nuits d’Afrique team which still calls on him regularly to accompany some of the biggest names in the African music industry such as Monique Seka, King Mensah,Secouba Bambino, Amadou Sodia, Hamid Bouchnak among others.As he is more and more known and recognized here, Wes’li also works with artists from the Montreal stage: Lorraine Klassen, Senaya (with whom he wins a prize during the 35th edition of the Festival International de la chanson de Granby in 2003), Pierre-Michel Ménard, Barbara, Sara Rénélik, Yakengue, Z’WA, Jean Arsenault, Steev Dumas, Syncop, Zahl Seck, etc. Alongside them, he sends a tremor through many events: Le Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Les Francofolies de Montréal, Le Festival du Monde de Chicoutimi, Le Festival Urbandfest d’Ottawa, Le Roots & Culture de Miami, Le Festival International Nuits D’Afrique, etc.The 2004 Francofolies de Montréal welcomes Wes’li as he accompanies the very popular R&B singer Gage and Corneille,Jerome Philipe. Wes’li acts as musical director and guitarist for both the hip-hop band, Muzion, with which he appears on stage as part of the opening act for Wycelf Jean, and Wycelf Jean in August 2004 and 2005 at the Festival d’été de Québec. He also performs with his band Yakengue at the Festival Vue sur la Relève 2005, Francofolies de Montréal 2005, Festival de Jazz de Montréal 2003 and 2006. In 2006, he appears in the performance of the great opera La Reine et la Perle by Natalie Choquette at the Festival d’été de Québec,now he is working as a guitarist for Jodie Rester(DEJA/MUSIC).He is the musical director, one of the composers and the guitarist of the multidisciplinary troupe Line 1 under the artistic direction of Mrs. Debra Brown, former choreographer for the Cirque du Soleil.Wes’li is the recipient, in 2006, of a grant from the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec in research and creation for the repertoire of his first solo album. He is currently working on this much anticipated first solo album which is due to come out in the fall of 2007.
