About Me

I grew up in small town America listening to top 40 pop hits and buying Michael Jackson tapes. Fast forward 27 years... I started DJing in the summer of 05. I was at a party and I saw a friend of mine use Traktor Digital DJ software and for the first time I was able to understand what a DJ does. You see I am a computer nerd by profession (Microsoft gets me during the day) and I have no musical background what-so-ever, however that hasn't stopped me. I imediately aquired software and music and made my in public premier at Burning Man while camping with Flight to Mars. I played marathon sets ranging from 1 to 6 hours. Style: It has taken some time to develop my style and genre of choice. I play mostly rock house and fun house. Sometimes I will drop some latin beats and I always carry around some funk with me.The Existential Detective Agency: I am a founding member of the Existential Detective Agency. The other founders are DJ Fauxfaux, DJ Stick Yo Hand in the Dirt, and DJ Genay Fav. We play mostly in the greater Seattle area and are known for throwing big ass throw down jump up kickin parties. In addition to our underground performances we play every Monday night at ToST Lounge in Fremont, plus we do one off shows about once a month.Promoter: I have been known to do a little party promotion around Seattle. Some of the larger events that I have worked on have been Hive-Mind, Seacompression, Critical Massive, Promesucity, School House Rawk, etc... Even though the big parties are fun, I really enjoy the smaller events like Wig and Skirt, Visible Underwear, The Christmas White Party, Get Rammed, etc... I think some of my favorite times have come from those events.Equipment: Toshiba Tecra M3 Echo Indigo DJ sound card Traktor 3.1 Pioneer HDJ-1000 headphones Korg Kaos Pad II Feena Midi Controller

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: sweetchrisbell.com
Influences: ..Most of my influences came from local Seattle table heros such as DJ Fauxfaux, Whatever, DIEM, Shapey, etc... I was inspired when I first saw these guys spin. More mainstream influences came from Daft Punk, XTC, Longwave, Caroline's Spine, The Decemberists, etc...I never really liked electronic music until I went to Burning Man. That event has changed my life and launched my DJ career. I arrived on the playa Friday morning nd imediately walked out to 10:00 and was blown away that people were still dancing at 9:00am. The concept blew my mind and at that point to ceased being Chris Bell and became DJ Sweet Chris Bell.
