Rosetta Stone Music, a division of Rosetta Stone Pictures out of Los Angeles, was launched July 2005 in the cradle of rock 'n' roll, Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The label's first release, entitled “South, Muscle Shoals Revisited†features New Zealand singer, songwriter Helen Henderson. It is currently in production and scheduled for release in 2007.
Producer/Director Rose Bauer was inspired to create the Rosetta Stone Music label after taking a trip to Muscle Shoals, Alabama to scout locations for her independent film entitled “A Sense of Peace.†After spending two weeks there, Bauer fell head over heels in love with the lush beauty of the countryside and expansive Tennessee River. Bauer was convinced that this was the place where she would set up her production and create the unfolding drama that was set in the tumultuous time of the civil rights movement.
During her stay at the Holiday Inn, Bauer was invited by a local to join a group of friends going to the Thursday night music showcase in the Fizz Lounge. After the show, Bauer was introduced to legendary musicians such as Donny Fritz and Spooner Oldham. But the biggest thrill of the evening was when a gentleman by the name of Sam Phillips introduced himself by shaking her hand.
Back in her hotel room that night, Bauer got the creative idea to bring New Zealand singer songwriter Helen Henderson to the Shoals and produce a record merging Henderson’s sound with the great Muscle Shoals rock 'n' roll sound. Henderson, whom Bauer produced and directed in a music video in 2000 entitled “The Ballad of Minnie Dean,†had never heard of a place called Muscle Shoals, but was interested in the idea. At Bauer’s coaxing, Henderson began researching to learn about Muscle Shoals Music history and the background on the top musicians Bauer suggested for the record. Bauer also convinced Henderson that including the Muscle Shoals Horn Section on some of the songs would add to the uniqueness of the record.
Bauer soon got the ball rolling, orchestrating the logistics, meeting with and hiring the musicians, and setting up the recording session. By November, with everyone present, Bauer stepped back and let the magic unfold. After the album was recorded at the famous Fame Recording Studio, Bauer sought out and soon caught the attention of Joel Anderson of Anderson and Anderson, convincing him to listen to the record “SOUTH.†Soon after, Mr. Anderson met with Bauer, loved what he heard and agreed to distribute the record in Wal-Mart.
Rosetta Stone Music is seeking new talent from the area and is accepting submissions.
