I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am typical libra where self discussion and praise are concerned, so you'll just have to ask away. I may be a bit shy, but I'm not at all bashful.

My Interests

Reading, writing, someone else's art and music, nature, cooking (this one doesn't seem to fit with grad school so well - come to think of it, not much does), driving or travel (still, despite the gas.)Disinterests: salesmen of any sort - especially when I'm trying to sleep, doing the dishes, or oblivious; inconsistency - I understand trying to figure it out, but pay attention to yourself when you meander or the lesson is lost.

I'd like to meet:

Someone who can solve all the world's problems without thinking of themselves, but I'll gladly settle for my friends and family for now. Most of them do a pretty good job where the world is concerned. Also, if I don't already know you, I'm not likely going to start right out adding you to my friends list. If something I've done here makes you think I'm cool and worth getting to know, please start with the message button.

Music:

Not real picky, but prefer originality, understandability, and low levels (or none) of electricity, anger and intoxication. Last four purchases were Nora Jones, Josh White, Emer Kenny & Celtic Women. Sadly, that's probably a well over a year of music shopping.

Movies:

Pay it Forward, Mindwalk, Talking Picture, Before Sunrise, La Vita E Bella, Crash (by Haggis - there's an earlier cover by the same name-Cronenberg- that's not so good). The most interesting I've seen recently is The Science of Dreams. ************************************************************ **********************************************************Th ere is something wrong with this test ***You Are Animal***A complete lunatic, you're operating on 100% animal instincts. You thrive on uncontrolled energy, and you're downright scary. But you sure can beat a good drum. "Kill! Kill!"The Muppet Personality Test http://www.blogthings.com/themuppetpersonalitytest/

Television:

Ha, Nothing really good has stayed on television in a very long time; any other response would be simply like the wind. I am most often unsubscribed from cable and my side of the hill doesn't pick up any channels without it. When I have channels, I usually halfway follow whatever superman knock off series is going at the time.

Books:

Islandia, L-O-T-R, Hawk's Nest, The Sparrow, Ishmael, Glass Castle, Harry Potter - Generally fictional worlds that seem real in themselves, even if they don't outside themselves; and social commentaries that cause us to think about reality from the community level.

Heroes:

Hmmm, fictional = superman in most forms. - - Non-fictional? I've seen too much of the world today to respond with confidence, but Einstein is a start, though he learned part of his wisdom too late.Anyone who chooses their causes and sticks with it as a passion. If it is in your heart, you can't help but make a difference. If it is only in your wallet, you might get lucky, but you have to give it to someone that carries it in their heart.

My Blog

Research and Wedding Roundabout Closed

I am likely too tired to be writing for comprehension, but I will do so anyway. I arrived back home in dear old Boone at 2 am this morning, and my body settled for resting only until 9am after I final...

Latest viewing of the arts

Alright, I haven’t done one of these in awhile, and there really ought to be a category that just says ’Entertainment’ because I always just pick a header when I write this sort of b...

Gunman on campus

Allright, some of you may have heard of this already, and others may soon enough, so I'll put out my two cents worth to allay any concerns that may arise. Sometime after 4 pm today, an armed robb...

One of "those" days

I've just finished experiencing 'one of those days'. Well, I'm using the word day in the old sense, in that it begins and ends at sun-down. Last night was dominated by one of those nice and rainy spe...

Automation and Economics

I was awakened from my snooze-button slumbers this morning by a call that rang once, then stopped, then started ringing in earnest. You'ld think that this would be a call from a friend aware that at t...

A bit of everything

This will be a scattered blog. Myspace had issues which prevented me from posting a week or so ago, so I'll likely start with some of that, but this morning carried a bit of surreality that intrigued ...

Movies, Christmas, and whatnot

Happy Holidays everyone. It's a balmy 47 here in the High Country as I write this. As I'm at work, I can look at the ice/snow beneath the nitrogen tank and remember that some year's we have a white bl...

Hope for Hollywood's homeless cats

I randomly watch movies, as do most of us. My taste is rather ecclectic as is my method of evaluation. Yesterday I washed Michel Gondry's "The Science of Sleep." It was an interesting film that may ne...

My number one social issue

Homelessness is my number one issue. Prior to returning to grad school in order to better research the issue, I worked at my local rural shelter for ten years. I decided that I would like a video port...
