About Me

4 Zero Records is a small independent record label specialising in psych and space-rock... and I run it. Our first release was "Really Don't Mind If You Sit This One Out", a collection of live recordings by maverick San Fran instrumental space-rock psych groove masters, Mushroom. Eastbayexpress made it one of their top 10 records of 2006 .
"Beauty and the Beast" by lo-fi Kraut-angst acid rockers, Earthling Society, will be our latest release, out 6th May. Following on from the critically acclaimed “Tears Of Andromeda”, “Albion”, and “Plastic Jesus” this will be the fourth album recorded at their self-built studio. “Beauty…” sees the band absorbing acid folk and West Coast psychedelic influences, whilst maintaining the heavier Krautrock sound that epitomises their live shows.

"Coaxed Out from Oxford" by free floating space anarchists Here & Now was released on 22nd October 2007. This has been lovingly remastered and features bonus tracks including a previously unheard song, 'Jimmy Mac', liner notes from Le Missile and artwork by Stacie Willoughby. Rock'N'Reel magazine said it is "a splendid documentary of one of the best live acts of the era at the height of their power".

"Yesterday, I Saw You Kissing Tiny Flowers", by Alison Faith Levy & Mushroom, was released on 26th May 2007. The Wire think that Alison's singing is "strong and soulful in the mould of the ladies of West Coast psychedelic scene", and Dream Magazine described the album as going "From lullaby gentle, to extrapolated electric blues grooving, moody slow motion torch songs, to percolating polyrhythmic Miles Davis-like funk jazz". The artwork by Nat Russell is simply gorgeous, but can only really be appreciated if you buy the CD!
So what's next? Well I don’t want to say too much... but we have a superb 24 track digital recording of the Planet Gong/Here & Now show at Dingwalls – Live Floating Anarchy 2007 anyone? There's also talk of a new Here & Now studio album and a new album from Mushroom with a heavy 'Indian raga/drone/folk rock' influence...
