About Me

Cellar Live was founded in 2001 by Cory Weeds. Since its inception Cellar Live has released ove r25 recordings, most of which have been recorded live at The Cellar Restaurant / Jazz Club in Vancouver, BC. Although primarily a label dedicated to releasing live recordings, Cellar Live has released several studio recordings including The Joel Haynes Trio - The Time Is Now, The Jodi Proznick Quartet - Foundations and James Danderfer Group - Run With It. In 2006 Cellar Live started an imprint called Cellar Live Futures dedicated to nurturing an developing young talent. The imprint's first two releases The October Trio - Day In and The Amanda Tosoff Quartet - Still Life have received rave reviews. Cellar Live futures is the first label in Canada to undertake such a venture.The labels distribution territories include Canada (Festival Distribution), Japan (Superstop Inc.) and the United States (North Country). Band Members: Cory Weeds has been dubbed Mr. Jazz by his peers and Canadian singer Kate Hammett-Vaughan has called Weeds "the hardest working man in jazz business."In addition to being the founder, producer and engineer at Cellar Live, Weeds runs one of Canada's finest jazz Club, The Cellar Restaurant / Jazz Club which has hosted the likes of George Coleman, Eric Alexander, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Barron, Kenny Garrett, Monty Alexander, Ben Riley, Red Holloway, Dr. Lonnie Smith, David ' Fathead' Newman and many many more.Weeds has also been playing the alto saxophone professionally for the better part of 15 years touring and recording worldwide. Some hightlights include 3 tours and counting with legendary organist Dr. Lonnie Smith as well as a recording. He has shared the stage with such luminaries as Charles McPherson, David Fathead Newman, PJ Perry, Don Thompson, Hugh Fraser and Ross Taggart. Weeds has played in all corners of the globe including Austrailia, Japan, New York, Italy and Switzerland.Weesd has hosted 'Chasin The Train' on 102.7 CFRO for the last 8 years and has also been heard on CBC's 'Hot Air' as a fill in for Paul Grant.Weeds is also currently working with Tall Poppy Records, a wonderful independant label headed up Lee Lindsey.
