Hello. I'm a Carpenter/Joiner by trade. I've been in the trade since 1987. In 2004 ,my wife Linda and I formed GLP WOODWORK’S in Wilton , New South Wales , Australia . Wilton is about 90km south west of Sydney . We specialise in custom made furniture, furniture restorations, custom made drums and restoration (Bearing edges re-cut, refinishing, colour matching etc). In 2004, I started making drums (stave/segmental construction). Since then we have made snare drums for musicians from Australia , America and Germany . Here’s what Hamish had to say about his Western Australian Jarrah snare drum by GLP WOODWORK’S -

" I'm really happy with my 12 x7 Jarrah "block" snare drum . I wanted a drum that was bright but not too bright if you know what I mean. So I thought Jarrah would be bright ... real bright .. so perhaps make the diameter smaller and the shell deeper... that might "warm" it up a little. Gary went to work and came back with this beautiful drum. I'm still getting to know it .I have just come back from a month in Europe on tour with Jackie Orszarsky and Tina Harrod . I used the drum every night and it sounded fantastic !!! I had many comments from musicians and sound people regarding the clarity and richness of tone in the snare drum. As time goes on I'll try some different heads etc and experiment with the sound .. but it sounds good now.. !!! I have a couple of studio projects coming up, and I'm looking forward to hearing how it sounds in that situation.
And Gary .. He's a family man .. a musician.. he loves wood.. and he loves music.. and he is fantastic at what he does..!! He realised a sound that was in my head .. and turned it into a drum.. that's a special gift. Check it out.!! ”

All of our snare drums and drumkits are individually handcrafted by GLP WOODWORK’S not mass produced. Each drum has it's own unique individual character, so no two drums are the same.We only use certified, sustainable timbers or reclaimed/recycled timbers. We can handcraft a snare or kit to your specifications. Made primarily from Australian Hardwoods eg Jarrah , Sydney Bluegum , Tasmanian Oak, Blackbean , Redgum , Blackwood, or any timber of your choice. We can also cut bearing edges and colour match to your existing kit. So if you would like a custom made snare drum or would like your existing one bought back to life, feel free to contact us.
