I was the lead singer for the band Rokotto, a nine piece band who took the UK by storm, based in Dundee, Scotland, known down south as the
funky Highland Hicks, until we played, they soon changed our name to the funky band from Dundee. We were signed to State Recording Company, part of warner bros.We had a couple of minor hits, "Boogie on up", and "Funk Theory" which both charted and we performed on TOTP twice. Rokotto went on to do support tours with, The Four Tops, Millie Jackson, and European Tour with Brass Construction, a funk band from America, who had the hits, "Moving" and "Changes", if youre a true funkateer, like me, you should know these songs. We also did shows with Heatwave, The Drifters also did Montreaux Jazz Festival with Taj Mahal and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Rokotto, original line up changed in 1979, which left Owen Wisdom, Howard Macleod, Hugh Paul and myself, In 1980 we were joined by both the two Leroy's and my good friend Steve Menzies.That line up played for the next year before we'd had enough and gone our seperate ways, our last show being in March "81" on the Isle of Jersey, where we had a month long booking where we had played for the previous few years, twice a year.At present I am doing the real tribute to Barry White with my band The Love Disciples which showcased at The Village Hotel, Leeds on 19th October 2007.My intention from here on in is to bring love music to the world, thats what the world needs not "war", I know its a cliche but hey, there you go thats the love disciple philosophy!
