I love this artist, Gil Elvgren (1914-1980). He painted pin-up girls from the 1930s-1970s. He also created glamorous illustrations for major American companies and magazines, such as....Coca-Cola, Sylvania, General Electric, McCalls, and Cosmopolitan.

Imagine a cloudy mist....
Punching your eyes with its fists
Smothering your visual field
Speeding through your senses refusing to yield
Your very own reflection has become distorted
Twisted beauty and your smile, contorted
Looking out into this world....wanting more
But not seeing what you yearn for
Dark and smudged tears continue to blur
Observation of the fine details do not occur
Faces are no longer recognized
Nothing but gray is visualized
Hunched over, one inch away from the screen
Perfection remains to be seen
Attempting to stay motivated and optimistic
Being forced to embrace this disability is realistic
Can't remember when you could see clearly
Steadily coping with this adversity
Blue sapphires weep
Sometimes happiness sleeps
Enduring this fight merely alone
Hoping the positive path will be shown
A long process to be grieved
Acceptance will one day be graciously received

THE BRAILLE INSTITUTE has dramatically changed my life For the better. It has given me a second chance to move forward.... I felt so alone and hopeless dealing with my central vision loss. But, after talking with such positive people that are going through the same thing as myself and hearing their inspirational stories, I finally feel like there is hope for me to overcome this adversity.....My future seems much brighter now!
Thanks so much to my Mom, my friends, and family for being there for me and encouraging me when I was overwhelmed with fear and sadness. I know that I can now begin to heal and get through this! I am becomming a stronger and more optimistic person!
