About Me

I like: To give. Every shade of blue. Anything chocolate, including chocolate martinis. Abstract art. Cheap, fruity, sweet wine. Pepsi over Coke. Christmas with all the frills. Coffee. Seasons--both figuratively and literally. Quiet time, alone time. The smell of yeasty homemade bread. Early mornings. Journaling. Beaches. Swimming in the ocean. Marimekko fabrics. Laughing. Being an Alaskan (tho' I'd prefer to live farther north in the Fairbanks area instead of in the southeastern rain forest--my mantra is "rain, rain, go away!") Road trips. Schedules and routines. Peace.
I dislike: Making phone calls, lengthy phone calls, running errands. Rain. Crowds. Airports. Flying. Boating. "Friends" who stab you in the back. People who whine, whine, whine. Selfish people. Drama. Slow drivers in the passing lane. Pumping gas. Clutter. Chaos.
I prefer one-on-one time with friends to parties, picnics, and potlucks. But on the other hand, I'd love to have a group of friends who I could pull together for things like themed parties, i.e. martini, "beach" party in the middle of winter, academy awards night, etc.
I like varied and/or deep conversation. I dislike chit-chat. And I want true conversation--give and take. I don't like when people talk, talk, talk and don't let you get a word in edgewise, or go on and on and on about something: I'm quick; I get it, move on!
And I get irritated by people who don't think. And who don't think before speaking. And who think out loud; thinking is supposed to be a silent, in-your-mind activity, not a verbal landslide! And did I mention slow drivers in the passing lane? :)
Finally, I wish I liked to cook!
More facts: Married. Three kids: son in college, son in high school, daughter in 3rd grade, whom I home school.
Freelance writer, tho' I don't write much anymore. It started to bore me. And that's the story of my life in a nutshell: It doesn't take long for me to become bored.
I was born in Oregon. I grew up there and on Cape Cod Massachusetts. Also lived briefly in California; for a blink in Missouri; 8 fine months in Bermuda; and have lived most of my adult life in Alaska.
My favorite scripture: "And the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!' And let him who thirsts come. And whoever desires, let him take of the water of life freely." (Rev. 22:17)

My Interests

The Lord. Altered Art crafts. Reading. Theater. Decorating--love color and design. Ebay!!!

I'd like to meet:

Christians who are more about the Lord and less about church. Altered Art Artists. People who like to read: I have a lot of friends. (Tho' not on myspace!) But I don't have anyone to discuss books with.

Music:

My husband is my favorite singer. (That's him singing I Will Arise, written by yours truly. Like it? Then please go to our myspace music site & add us to your friends list.) Also I love I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe. Also really like Il Divo. And just about anything rock/pop from the 70s, especially hard rock. I could go on and on: John Mayer, James Blount, Andrea Bocelli, Ashlee Simpson.... I don't know him personally, but I'm also a big fan of Rory Stitt (www.myspace.com/rorystitt or you can click on his pix in my friends list). I pretty much like all music except country--sorry to those country lovers :)

Movies:

Moulin Rouge is an all-time fav. I like dramas, such as Shop Girl and Lost in Translation--the kind that can be kinda sad, I guess. But also happy ones like Under the Tuscan Sun, Secondhand Lions, The Big Fish.... Or happy/sad ones like The Upside of Anger, I Am Sam. And I like comedies, too--love to laugh. I really enjoyed The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but as a rule, that genre is not my thing.

Television:

Survivor, Grey's Anatomy, Iron Chef America, HGTV, Oprah. And Friends; I know it's over, but I love(d) Friends. Great Friends Gag Reel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzN69MMKZZo

Books:

My #1 fav is the Bible. But I love to read. Some favorite authors are J. Picoult, A.R. Siddons, A. Tyler, J. Weiner, M. Binchy, P. Conroy, W. Lamb, R. Pilcher, S. Kinsella, J. Hamilton, J. Fitch, A. Tan, E. Berg, and more. Playwrights from the early Greeks to Shakespeare, C. Marlowe and to those of present-day, i.e. P. Vogel, T. Kushner, etc.--I'm in awe of the layers of richness in the scripts.... Also, in small doses: F. O'Connor, T. Wolfe, G. Greene, books like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, etc.

Heroes:

Jesus--He's my Rock. And also my husband, who has conquered mountains in my eyes; I call him my rock star. And my kids; they are bright: super stars in the making!
