Influences: Born Woodrow Wilson Sovine on July 17, 1918 in Charleston, WV. After a brief stint at KWKH in Shreveport, Hank Williams lent a helping hand in securing a slot at WFSA in Montgomery, and a recording contract with MGM. On April 4, 1980, Red suffered a heart attack while driving his van through Nashville. The heart attack along with the injuries sustained in the subsequent accident proved fatal.Red Sovine will always be remembered for Teddy Bear, Phantom 309, Giddy-Up Go, and Litta Rosa.Red SimpsonBorn on March 6, 1934 in Higley, AZ, Red Simpson was the youngest of 12 children raised in a musical family that relocated to Bakersfield during his childhood. During the Korean War, Red was stationed on the USS Repose where he formed a country group -- the Repose Ramblers. Upon his return to California, Red played numerous clubs including the Blackboard on weekends. In the 1995, Red re-entered the studio to record a pair of duets with Junior Brown -- Semi Crazy and Nitro Express. Although Red no longer tours, he performs frequently in the Bakersfield area including a regular Monday night gig at Trout's in Oildale.Some of Red Simpson's hits are Roll, Truck, Roll, Highway Patrol, and Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves.Dave DudleyBorn Darwin David Pedruska on May 3, 1926 in Spencer, WI, Dave Dudley grew up in Stevens Point, WI. Dave died at the age of 77 on December 22, 2003 of a massive heart attack in his home state of Wisconsin. In 1953 Dave formed the Dave Dudley Trio which stayed together for seven years. While packing his away guitar after a performance at The Flame on December 3, 1960, he was seriously injured when a car struck him. In 2001, Dave recorded his first all trucking project since 1965, American Trucker. In 2002, Dave participated in the Songs For the Long Haul project.Dave Dudley's top 40 singles include Six Days On The Road, Two Six Packs Away, Truck Drivin' Son-Of-A-Gun, Me And Ole C.B.C.W. McCallBorn Bill Fries on November 15, 1928 in Audubon, IA.C.W. McCall is best know for Convoy, and The Old Home Filler-Up And Keep On-A Truckin' Cafe. Convoy was the basis for a movie starring Kris Kristofferson.
