Van Tomiko is the vocalist of the popular Japanese band DO AS INFINITY. She has one of the most amazing voices in the world. Her extremely versatile and unique voice, which is a beautiful alto, can range from soothing and peaceful to high and almost screaming. She is one of the most talented singers alive; not only can she sing great, she can sing in almost any style the genuis Dai Nagao can come up with. Her voice is very powerful and can make you truly feel the song. Do As Infinity made it's first debut on the 29th of September in 1999. DAI was put together by Dai Nagao, the band leader. The acronym DAI is from his name. D(o) A(s) I(nfinity). DAI initially started off performing live in Shibuya and later began rising up to new heights as the days went bye.Do As Infinity is comprised of three essential members. First, Dai Nagao. As mentioned before, he put the band together and he also writes and composes most of the songs for DAI. He has also written songs for other singers such as Ayumi Hamasaki (Award winning 'Seasons') and Hitomi. Dai plays acoustic guitars for the group. Recently however, he has decided to take a more passive role in the public relations portion of the group. He has decided to withdraw from appearing in cover art, videos, etc. to spend more time writing for the group. Second is the lead singer of the group, Tomiko Van. Her alto voice provides the perfect sound for the compositions that Dai comes up with. Which includes Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, and more. Tomiko initially started off modeling, but when she was discovered as an amazing singer, she changed tracks to become a part of DAI. Last but definitely not least, the lead guitarist who can play both acoustic and electric, Ryo Owatari. Ryo has skills that is virtually unparalleled by any other guitarist in the world. All you need to do is listen to songs such as 'snail', and 'raven' and you will be convinced. Ryo also provides a backup singing voice for Tomiko. With each passing day Do As Infinity is gaining popularity and is taking the world by storm.Tomiko gave her first steps as a solo artist while she was on D·A·I with the songs "Again", which appeared in charity album Song Nation, and later in 2003 with the song "drive me nuts", which was recorded for trance DJs project Cyber X. (Tomiko also appeared in six commercials for Japanese hair products company, LAVENUS [1].After Do As Infinity disbanded in September 2005, Avex Trax, Tomiko's label, announced that the singer was about to go as a solo artist. [citation needed]Tomiko has a Kumamoto-dialect, which she performed on the first show that was aired after the official announcement of the split-up, Domoto Kyoudai. For most of the time, she doesn't display it to the public. [citation needed]In 2006 Tomiko made her debut as a solo artist with her album "FAREWELL", with an all new music style, with mainly soft ballads, and even getting into jazz tunes, a style really different from old her works with band Do As Infinity. Surprisingly for a Japanese artist, no singles were released prior to her album for promoting it and helping sales, and the album was finally released in March 2006.On October 3, 2006, Tomiko announced that she shall make her debut role in the Japanese movie, Heat ISLAND, as a café bar manager. Apparently, it has already begun its production process. Tomiko also announced her second stage-play role in a Japanese version of a recent play in America, Brooklyn, which shall involve her singing talent as well as acting. However, she has stated that this will not put a halt on her career as a singer, her second album is already in the production and should be released in 2007.
