ONE MIK Entertainment is a product of Capital NYC Entertainment INC., and it is more than a record label dedicated to artist representation, promotion, and production of Panamanian Reggae, we are a movement of individuals with the vision of propelling Panamanian artist to the forefront of the international Reggae, Latin Rap, Hip-Hop scene.
ONE MIK is the result of an alliance of young Panamanian business people that represent knowledge of the global and increasingly technical market place, a passion for Spanish Reggae, and a willingness to unite Panamanian artist. ONE MIK was created out of a necessity for a vehicle to provide momentum and exposure to Panamanian artists and their music.
Spanish Reggae as a genre of music in Panama is rooted in the rich cultural and musical influences of the presence of Afro-West Indian communities in Panama since the migration of thousands of workers from the islands of the Caribbean to Panama before, during and after the construction of the Panama Canal. Calypso, Soca, and later Haitian Compa and Jamaican Reggae have always been a part of any Panamanian dj’s arsenal as well as more traditional forms of Latin music like Son, Pachanga, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Baladas. The combination of musical influences and mixture of culture has allowed the genre of Spanish Reggae to grow and flourish in Panama since the late 1970’s.
ONE MIK ventures into un-chartered areas, as no other promotion/production company has attempted to unite Panamanian Reggae artists before. ONE MIK, just ONE strong amplifying MIK , represents one unifying voice of all the talent in Panama. We have begun to propel the genre of Spanish reggae into the U.S. and European markets. We call this propulsion, “The Panamanian Invasion†which is an invasion of banging dancehall, soca, and even hip-hop riddims to bombard the streets, clubs, and airwaves in combination with rough and sweet Spanish lyrics.
It has been said by many musicians, singers, dj’s and producers that it is impossible for a typical Panamanian party to ever take place anywhere outside a Panamanian community because our dj’s play and mix too many different genres of music.
ONE MIK Entertainment is here to provide the artist and music to do just that: make it possible for a showcase of artists that have the talent to create and perform Spanish Reggae for reggae lovers and dance music lovers worldwide.
