In August of 2005 I got pregnant. I was excited about becoming a mom, and knew that I wanted my pregnancy to be as natural as possible. I was unsure how much support my husband was going to be willing to provide, so instead of being mad and resentful toward him I went out and found the support I knew I would need for my pregnancy.
As with most things in my life a seemingly random chain of events (otherwise known as The Law of Attraction) led me to my doula. She also happened to be a natural childbirth teacher. I signed up for classes and Ryan agreed to go with me.Once we got started with the classes and Ryan began to get some concrete information about how much our choices affect the health and welfare of our baby he became a very strong advocate for natural childbirth and healthy living.
He was an amazing coach and I never would have made it through our 39 hour labor without him. We had some complications and in the last 30 minutes of our birth I had an epidural. Our doula was an invaluable member of our birthing team, as well as our midwife and the doctor that was called in at the end.
Our birth, although not exactly as it was intended, was amazing and perfect for our family. I truly believe that it was only due to our knowledge and the assistance of our doula that we came out of our birth without a C section.
Now Hanna is growing and getting bigger, in fact she will be 2 in May! Geez, how time flies!!
We continue to be a mostly natural and attached family, nursing on demand, "wearing" her when she'll let me, responding to her needs, and co-sleeping.
We also use cloth diapers. It was a choice I made as soon as I knew I was pregnant. There are so many different kinds of diapers out there now, it is nothing like when my mom cloth diapered me. I have actually become a bit of a cloth diapering nut, it is so fun, and can be really addictive. I love to talk about it to anyone that will listen, so feel free to message me!
Since the time I got pregnant with Hanna I have wanted to put together a website ~ a community ~ where I could provide women with information and resources about Natural Pregnancy and Childbirth.
It's finally happened and I am so EXCITED!!! I can't believe the response I have gotten so far, in fact it has grown into something much bigger than I originally ever dreamed of. It is quickly becoming a global community of women who are supporting other mamas to have a natural pregnancy and childbirth.I would love for you to come by and be part of the community.
