Band Members: As a talented songwriter and vocalist, Jamela Bullock is like an exciting and comfortable melody that you will never forget. Her journey with music is continuous and she has so many more places to go. Will you join her? From a young girl to a grown womanJamela’s style was influenced by early experiences in Germany. Born and raised there during the forming years of her life, this was her first home. She came with music booming in her blood. Emily Jones, Jamela’s mother & strong influence, had just released her first international LP in Germany in 1979. Her mom was singing everywhere, so when she realized that her daughter could sing as well, it didn’t take long for Jamela to be right by her side, singing soulful tunes & sharing her talent with the world.By the time Jamela came to the United States, her mother had joined a church in Virginia and she only sang gospel music. So from the ages of six to sixteen, Jamela continued to unravel herself and her artistry, solely through the lens of various styles of gospel music. Jamela remembers, “I was able to train myself simultaneously – musically and spiritually. I always knew I was set apart and different from many around me. And I was oh so comfortable with it all!” Some of her influences are The Winans, Commissioned, Yolanda Adams John P. Kee, Out of Eden, the G.R.I.T.S, the Cross Movement and her mother, Mrs. Emily Jones.Stars Rise in the East and...After high school, as the young woman grew up, work outside of the gospel arena expanded – mainly through her work with talented producers and music composers. She linked up with some of VA’s emerging hip hop producers – she, in awe of their music ability and they, in awe of her sweet yet soultry voice. She offered the right sound to balance out the beats & she created enough of a mark for people to want to know her more. And she gave them just that. More. She has sang hooks for artist such as Dolomic, Kleph Dollaz, Kevin Teasely, Danja Mouwf, and Born Unique, Elliott Yamin and Big Planz, and you’ve heard her energetic & distinguished voice on jingles for the VA Lottery, the Room Store, United Way, Dominion Company and many more. Jamela performed more – giving rave performances at notable venues such as Richmond’s premier summer concert series Friday’s At Sunset, Tropical Soul Restaurant & Lounge, the Richmond Christian Center, Manhattans, Cosmopolitan Lounge, Byrd Theatre, Henrico Theatre, and the trendy and popular Hyperlink Café. To date Jamela has been a featured vocalist on numerous projects and she has written and recorded many catalogs of music. Now she’s giving more to herself, through independent projects and collaborations with just as bright stars. The Journey ContinuesWonderfully Flawed is Jamela’s currently released LP, collaborating with some of Virginia’s most cutting edge producers and artist. Control Freaks, Big Baby Productions, and Mike Uneek are a few of the people that make this album as fresh and welcoming as it is. With classic hits such as Feminine of He and Good to Me, the album provides the right amount of soul and spirit that the music industry is in search for. Her first independent project When Morning Comes (2000) is what encouraged Jamela to understand the realness of her gift. With cuts like Repetition, Blind Date, and Love Cycle produced by Dolomic for Strong Arm Productions and Rodney. She’s started work on her 3rd & highly anticipated project, and Jamela is expecting her audience to see another side. Expanding her work with producers such as Terry Thompson, Walter Harris, and Joe Cypress, Sandman, Dolomic, Joshua Bryant, Jamela’s songwriting skills and vocals continue to flourish. She states, “Each emotion that God has blessed me to experience, analyze, condense and share in song is a reflection of the lessons that go along with living in these troubled days. Life issues, love issues, and our own path of spirituality and peace, help to form the core of my music and what I am led to write about. I hope you take the time to listen and enjoy!”She credits artist such as Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Beyonce, Musiq, Donny Hathaway, India.Aire, Whitney Houston, Erykah Badu, and Amel Larriuex as her influences regarding mainstream music, noting the realness and the drive that they infuse in all that they do. Jamela is the soulful & spirited voice of this age with the grace and wisdom that is still so hard to find. She provides natural talent and substance, something that we all could get a little more of. Jamela’s journey continues and we hope that you’ll stay along for the ride.**For information on booking and recording, please contact Adrienne Cole at [email protected] or Jamela Bullock at [email protected].
