I love absorbing information and learning new things. I love anything house, anything color. I love reading and someday I'm gonna write a book. Through out my life I've had many great hobbies and interests, which I miss sometimes, but right now I'm just savouring every moment I have with my family and friends. It's something I'd forgotten to do for a while.
There is something to be learned from everyone, but that said....I'd be happy if I could just keep in touch with the people I already know. The only people I would really want to meet are already dead; John Keats, Oscar Wilde, my grandmother (I would like to have known what she was like). I suppose I just have bad timing!?! Which is why I'd be content to spend more time with the people I've already met.
I love music that makes you happy...the kind of song that can turn your day around. I love desperation and passion in music. I love anything Troy does (call me pathetic, but it's just so HOT to see him do something he loves so much). My Chemical Romance, Yellowcard, I'm a huge CURE fan. Love the mellow stuff too, like Tori Amos, Enya, Loraina McKennitt. And I love Elton John (but I don't think anyone else knows that - until now, or course).
I'm a hopeless romantic so Casablanca. Princess Bride. Roman Holiday. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is definitely a big favorite (the romantic in me can ALMOST overlook the bastardization of the relationship between Arwen and Aragorn...almost). Elizabeth with Kate Blanchet. I love classics and costumes and period flicks...bitter sweet love stories, romantic comedies. My new holiday favoite "Love Actually" it's a great movie to make you feel like the world isn't such a bad place afterall!
I rarely sit still long enough to watch television, unless the love of my life forces me to, and even then I find it difficult. But I can't wait for the new season of The Office. Troy's got me watching Rescue Me, with Dennis Leary and I have to admit I like it. Of course my all time favorite....the reason television exists in my book is FIREFLY. What a horrible tragedy that it was cancelled. Glad they made the movie to rub it in FOX's face, but I'm greedy...I don't want just two hours, I want an hour every week forever. I'd settle for about 10 seasons. Is that too much to ask?
Finally got around to reading the 6th Harry Potter book, admittedly not one of my favorites. I'll have to overcome the emotional block and fear of the end before I read the 7th book - that could be a while. All time favorites: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, The House of Mirth by Edith Warton, All the Harry Potter books (the 3rd is my favorite so far) and of course, The Hobbit and all that follows - I love reading, but never have time for fiction anymore, there's just too many things in this world I want to know more about or have the unfortunate luck to require more knowledge on. For a super cool non-fiction read, try "THE BRAIN THAT CHANGES ITSELF!" Neuroplasticity is my new favorite subject!! Seriously cool stuff.
I've given a lot of thought to this hero thing. Anyone who can live everyday with love and patience, have virtue without judgement, or who can gather hope, strength, solace in the face of anger and resentment is a hero. Ghandi represented all of these qualities at once and is a hero to many. For me though, I know every-day people struggle with these virtues and anyone who is able to accomplish even one in their lifetime is worthy of being called a hero.
