The much touted International Heineken Green Synergy Competition will be held here in Nassau this year. The Competition which has been running for about five years pits all of the best Discs Jockeys in The Caribbean in one competition. The Bahamas entered for the very first time last year. Our representative, the talented Carvin Dorsett aka D.J Fines has successfully defended his title and is about to again battle The Caribbean's best. He is however, doing it on home soil. Carvin became interested in the profession after his brother Adlai aka D-Boy was playing frequently at many venues. Adlai, the owner of Nassau Party Express never sat and taught his brother the skills he needed to be a d.j. But like all older brothers, you only need to hang around them long enough before you begin emulating them and emulate Fines did. He went on to become the youngest D. J. to ever play on radio even before he was the legal age to do so. There were many veteran D. J.s that were instrumental in assisting the career of this young man. One of them is Brett Archer of Power 104.5. When he speaks of the very popular D.J. Fines, he smiles as he fondly remembers the enthusiastic youngster who would stop at nothing to gain the knowledge you had about the business. ..If you were willing to teach then Fines was willing to learn... says Brett.

They just kept saying, "boy he is fine", and it just stuck." He has changed it however, just in case you think he is full of himself think again because, he is quite the contrary. He is not but he is very confident and has changed F.I.N.E.S now to an acronym that means For I'm Never Ever Second. Upoun graduating from High School, he continued to play at various venues. He is a consistent face at the annual Red Cross Fair. One day however, he entered a competition and his life changed forever. Being young and cocky Fines entered a competition that featured much older and experienced disc jockeys. He did not win but was noticed by Steve Hauey and Dion Knowles of 100 Jamz. They recruited him and the rest as they say is history.Fines literally grew up whilst being employed at the popular radio station. His skills improved under the tutelage of one Dion Da Butcha Knowles and he developed a fan base. "I can honestly say that Dion became like a father to me, taking me under his wings and ensuring that I had the tools that I needed to improve my game." Popular Radio Personality, J.J. Mckenzie also became one of his mentors. ..She constantly looks out for me and ensures that no one takes advantage of me.. Fines says of her.As for his thoughts on the competition this month. I am preparing myself mentally and physically. "I am happy to be the host for this competition, but it is just that, a competition. I am going to do my best.
