The dj also known as "The Gunfighter","Mighty" Mikey Ringo is a prominent selector/dj/presenter on SLR 97.7 FM. His show consists of mainly dancehall reggae also conscious one drop, roots, old skool, foundation and revival reggae music. From a very young age he began listening to his father play his records and by the age of 11 Mikey mastered all his father's selections (label,artist, producer etc). It then became apparent that year he alone selected his father's music at a "big people's" dance. The rest is history. He first became a toaster due to inspiring dj's such as U Roy,I Roy,Dennis Alcapone, Big Youth etc, but it was Johnny Ringo who Mikey would emulate in terms of delivery and style of lyrics so people called him Jnr Ringo for a short while before changing it to Mikey later on. His musical repetoire goes as far back as Ska to Rocksteady, Studio One, Treasure Isle, Bunny Lee, Lee Perry, Joe Gibbs,
Moodies, Channel One, Sly & Robbie, Volcano, King Jammys, Steely & Clevie, Penthouse, Bobby Digital, Madhouse, Shocking Vibes.....The list is endless as his love for Jamaican music is paramount because of his Jamaican background. He can also play RnB, Hip Hop, Soul, Disco and a little Soca blended in. He use to play in a small party sound called Hitbound from north west London before becoming a resident dj at the London Apollo in Willesden. It was in 1995 he took to playing on the radio on Sunrise FM radio before moving to SLR Radio in 1996. Although he is very current in dancehall music, he always tries to diverse in other genres of reggae music on his show. Always rated SECOND TO NONE. FACT.
