About Me
Since an early age, Angus Gibbins has always been playing or creating music. A classically and jazz trained trumpet player, and classically trained French horn player from his school years, he also took a keen interest in his father’s CD collection, of which Sasha and John Digweed were dominant artists.
His DJing career began in his home town on the Sunshine Coast in 2004 playing funky house in a small, local bar on Friday and Saturday nights. Moving to Brisbane in 2005, Angus explored his true passion of trance and became a regular at the local Resonate trance nights. It wasn’t long before he was moving onto bigger and better things like 4 To The Floor Parties; Gatecrasher Global Soundsystem; Guest mixes on radio shows such as Preparation Zero, Crucial Cuts and Global Elements; and his first interstate gig at Elation in Canberra.
At aged 22, 2006 saw him experimenting in production, guest spots at Ibiza Uncovered; Queen’s Birthday Ball; Sunday Roast; Genesis and making his debut appearances in the main room at The Family nightclub in Brisbane and Earthcore Global Carnival.
Angus’s sound is influenced by a wide range of artists such as Markus Schulz, Perry O’Neil, Estuera, Elevation, Above and Beyond, Andy Moor, Hemstock and Jennings and Mirco de Govia, through to harder, techier influences like Randy Katana, Marco V, Marcel Woods and Fred Baker.
His achievements and skill is equalled only by his passion, and his style is said to be consistent yet versatile and a unique blend of progressive, deep, uplifting, melodic and techy sounds. He is radpily rising through the ranks and set to become a leader in the trance scene in Brisbane.
2007 is looking bright for Angus, with international support gigs already lined up, the launch of his weekly radio show on KrankyDigital and current negotiations of a second show on MixsdFM.
Angus has played alongside some of the world’s (and Brisbane’s) biggest names: Mallorca Lee, David Forbes, Fast Twitch, Benny Drohan, Nick Sentience, Vibrasphere, DJ Nervous, Dingostyle, Nick Galea, Cosmo Cater, Ian Nearhos, JT Effect, Simon Hunter, Peekz, Enerv8, Tranceducer, and Family residents Baby Gee, Syke and tyDi.
The Media
"One of ITM’s favorites, Angus Gibbins, played a solid progressive trance set, demonstrating his ability to pitch his music appropriately for the event. He pulled out a couple of local productions by Nick Galea & Native and tyDi. I have heard Angus play a number of times over the last two years, and while he can bang it out, and get a room driving with a strong euphoric edge, Saturday night illustrated his ability to keep it contained. He also demonstrated humor, ending with Yello!"
