About Me

Phoenix Opheila started out as a small band called Laced in June of 2005, when singer Brett (aka Exile), guitarist Mat Larribas, bassist Myles Joseph, and guitarist Eric Volden teamed up to play music and have fun. Later, drummer Joel Muschott was introduced to the band by a very good friend, and Myles Joseph was replaced by bassist Sarah Carey. Eric Volden left the band, followed by singer Exile. The name Laced was dropped in favor of the name Metallurgy, which is the process that seperates the impurities from metal, which was our direction at the time. After many many months of trying out different singers, the band decided to go with Josh Berlin, who had the deep lyric and talent the band was looking for. They then changed their name to Phoenix Ophelia to fit their philosophy. However, a weak and undetermined link still needed to be fixed and bassist Sarah was dropped in favor for Nailed Shut alumni Bryan McElroy. Unfortunately, Bryans Pantera addiction made him leave the band so we decided to cut the crap and bring in long time friend of the band, and Mat's brother, David to play and write bass guitar.
Phoenix Ophelia was never about scene or looks. It's really about expressing deep musical interest and strong phliosophy through atmospheric yet hard, strong, rock.
