About Me

............yes, we are BLACK LAB, american rock band, purveyor of the nineties hits "wash it away" & "time ago." yes, we have a second album, the follow up to 'your body above me.' it's called 'see the sun' and a lot of people seem to like it. sorry it took so long... anyway, click here to see it and here to hear an eight song preview in your computer's audio player.
our third album, which came out this march, is called 'passion leaves a trace.' FX's promo for the sixth season of 'the shield' features a song from the album called 'this night.' click here to check out the video promo, get yourself an mp3, preview some songs from the album, maybe even buy the thing. cool.
you may think we're insane but we also put out an album of new electronica, techno-rock & remixes this june, called 'technologie.' Andy Ellis, our beloved guitarist, is such a huge Transformers fan, he got us roped up to do a cover of the original theme in honor of the new movie. check out the homemade video we made (using stolen Transformers film trailer footage) for the song above. click here to check the vid in hi-res, get an mp3 of the song, and buy or download the album.
we're also rocking at the website, blacklabworld.com, which is quite excellent and can be found right here . if you'd like to stay in closer touch, click me to subscribe to the email list/newsletter thing. it goes out 6-8 times a year, is well-written and informative.
adding to the excitement, we recently reissued a special edition of our debut, 'your body above me : the director's cut,' featuring two additional minutes that had been edited out, two additional songs that had been left off, remastered, resequenced, refueled. whether you love our first album or have never heard it before, this is your chance to hear it for the first time. click here to see it and here to hear a preview.
enjoy the tunes above. please add them to your pages and help spread the luv. meanwhile, let me take the opportunity to thank everyone for your generous comments, both on the front page here and the blogs . writing the blog has been an indulgent pleasure, as has been reading your responses. keep them coming.
for those who don't know or have stumbled on this site or are friends of friends or are black lab scholars with ph.d.'s in black lab: we made a record on geffen called "your body above me" with a couple songs you might have heard ("wash it away," "time ago"). we were also on a bunch of soundtracks ('buffy,' 'can't hardly wait,' varsity blues,' permanent midnight,' more recently, 'blade: trinity.') anyway, then we made a record on epic that never came out so we released it ourselves. it is fabulous and can be purchased from our website (we ship worldwide) or, for instant gratification, download it from iTunes .
speaking of instant gratification, let me please hype our insider-only, very v.i.p. 'mp3 of the month club.' it's like the champagne room of online subscriptions, except that in this champagne room you might actually get some. sign up, pay your green, and I'll send you an mp3 that day that has never be heard before and can only be gotten via the club. then we'll send you one every month, like a favorite magazine, along with exclusive photos and scribbling and gossip. click-click right here to check it out -- there's also free stuff when you sign up and free streaming and downloads and free porn (just kidding...).
yeah and hey, a little reminder: add black lab to the list of bands in your 'music' column please. it helps your friends who may be hibernating fans come out of their caves and get themselves some fresh meat.
ok, it's awesome to see you all. subscribe to the blog while you're here and I'll fill your screens with sweet bile and really personal stuff you didn't want to know.
thanks forever.
love,
paul

Band Website: blacklabworld.com
Band Members: paul durham, andy ellis & brian paturalski, among others.
Influences: "Influences"? dunno. here's some bands we have spend millions of hours listening to: the cure, u2, echo & the bunnymen, massive attack, the prodigy, psychedelic furs, radiohead, new order, placebo, rem, chris whitley, throwing muses, kruder & dorfmeister, phoenix, tricky, bob the dylan, black lab (for search purposes), zombies...
Sounds Like: everything from epic english stuff like u2 & live & coldplay & snow patrol to (apparently) more american stuff like goo goo dolls, better than ezra, collective soul, dishwalla, etc., from post-grunge to weepy folk rock, from techno-laced noiz to pristine pop. increasingly eclectic.
