kumu 'olelo hawai'i

I was born on the island of hawai'i and raised in kalihi valley on o'ahu. I have been teaching for the past 22 years in the hawaiian immersion program here in hilo and 20 years at the university of hawai'i, hilo.my goal is to give life to the hawaiian language and culture. I believe that the language is the essence of a culture and one cannot live without the other. I feel that I owe my life to my makua, kupuna and ancestors who were punished for speaking their mana'o in their native tongue.hawaiian music, arts, and culture are my passion. I feel if you are going to play hawaiian music, practice the arts, and continue the culture, then you must do your homework and be true to the composers, the kumu, and hawaiians.blessing others is what I truly enjoy doing, especially if I can help them be PONO,...eo e kukiamekekahiau hunt! if I could help anyone be more focused on what needs to be done then I have done something that is PONO.
