There is no testimony without a test. And possessing both resilience and strength are what you need to survive in the music industry. CAP holds both of those qualities in his possession and is ready to take the hip-hop game by storm.
CAP, a Detroit native, was born May 10th. Having the support of both of his parents was only half the battle. Realizing at an early age that he had a knack for writing rhymes, he decided to embrace his talent and develop his skills by doing his homework on the music industry and practicing. As an adolescent, attending Cass Technical High School gave CAP an outlet to showcase his skills. In 1998, CAP decided to take writing rhymes to the next level and joined a group by the name of P.F.L. (Playas for Life). In 2001, P.F.L. released their first mix tape self-entitled P.F.L.
Two years later, with the encouragement of producers and one of the P.F.L group members, CAP decided to become a solo artist and released his solo effort on a mixtape titled Underground Platinum. Understanding that it takes patience and determination in establishing yourself as a solo artist, CAP began to eat, sleep and breathe writing, rhyming and the studio. By 2007, he had recorded his official album “One for the Moneyâ€. He released his first single “Next Thing U Know†produced by B. Mills to radio within the same year and before he knew it, he had a hit.
CAP’s single “Next Thing U Know†was spinning at three of Detroit’s main radio stations (FM98 WJLB, Hot102.7 WHDT, & CHANNEL955 WKQI), not to mention in Toledo, Highland Park and Muskegon. In January 2008, “Next Thing U Know REMIX†was released and he hit the number one spot on Hot 102.7.
Since the release of his album CAP has performed and appeared in a number of shows. His debut performance in May 2007 for WJLB’s What’s Next On the Menu Showcase featuring DJ Quik and other local artists, grabbed the attention of many. He went on to appear at Hot 102.7’s “Shoes for Shorties 2007†with the likes of Gorilla Zoe, Tiffany Evans, Twista, and Hurricane Chris. Taking it a step further CAP performed at the Mount Clements Invasion featuring Shady/Aftermath recording artist Obie Trice.
CAP is not just one of many to have a talent in rhyming, but he has what it takes to become a permanent fixture in hip-hop. He describes his music as "a breath of fresh air to hip hop combining today's trends with the lyrical content of past eras of rap while still concentrating on song writing that can be enjoyed by different ages, races and genders." CAP is definitely up next!
