marcus. is a distinct artist/emcee with a laid back flow who hails from east Memphis, TN. With an athleletic background, he eventually landed a scholarship to Jackson State University in Mississippi, where he majored in art/graphic design. But his basketball career was put on hold when marcus. suffered a broken foot. During time spent off the court he leaned more toward music. Later he linked up with the independent label Our Glass Entertainment where through a mutual friend, was introduced to Kamikaze, a member of the then rap group Crooked Lettaz which in turn led to meeting David Banner. Coincidently, marcus. and his group doberman gang was in a defunct situation with Our Glass around the same time of the Crooked Lettaz break up. Soon after, David Banner started his label b.i.G f.a.c.e entertainment and released his first solo album(underground) entitled "dem firewater boyz, volume 1," where marcus. appeared on three tracks- “dem firewater boyz,†“pay ya duez,†and the opening track “flick’n twankiezâ€.Always having good chemistry between the two, marcus. and David Banner kept recording together and eventually marcus. became the first artist on b.i.G f.a.ce. Since joining b.i.G f.a.c.e, marcus. has recorded a pretty large catalog of underground solo material. Also he appeared on the Mississippi the Album lp on the songs “still pimpin†with David Banner and Kamikaze, and “really don’t wanna goâ€, on Bone Crusher’s “Attenchun!†on “grippin tha grainâ€,and “ridin' dem caddiez,†tha x-mas song,†and “my Lord†with David Banner and sky. marcus. also appeared on “pretty pink†with David Banner, T.I and Jazze Pha also from “MTA2 Baptized in Dirty Waterâ€. Also on David Banner’s “certified†album, marcus. appears on the title track and alongside hometown natives 8ball and MJG and three 6 Mafia on “gangsta walkâ€, a highly slept on ode to the Memphis dance that was the start of what is now widely referred to as southern “crunk musicâ€. marcus. has appeared with David Banner on Ludacris' “Chicken N Beer†Tour, which also included DTP, Chingy, and Knoc’turnal, and also on 50 cent's Canadian “Beg for Mercy†Tour. From Snoop Dogg to Andre 3000 to Devin the Dude as some of his most notable influences, marcus. has a very distinctive rhyme style backed by melodic hooks. With a heavy Memphis accent alongside the blues and “pimpin†derived from the old school tradition from his hometown (Isaac Hayes, Al Green, Bobby Womack, etc.) marcus. hopes to change naysayers minds that think Memphis is nothing but “crunk†music. marcus. said, “We buck out here-matter of fact Memphis was the first place to get it buck.†But there is a whole other side to our tradition- that “pimpinâ€, that soul music. “That’s the side that my music is mostly derived from, and that’s the next phase people need to see coming from Memphis.†With an extremely syrupy slow flow backed by live guitars/horns and hard 8 0 8 drumbeats, marcus. has created a sound he describes as “Cadillac/Chevy Murziccâ€. It shouldn’t be long until the rest of the music industry gets set on cruise control.
