Davey Havok:VocalsDavey Havok was born in Rochester, New York. Davey got an early interest in punk rock when he was in his early teens, and formed the band AFI with drummer Adam Carson when he was 15. After many member changes throughout the years and 3 albums, the band became stable with a complete and powerful lineup including bassist Hunter Burgan and guitarist and new songwriter Jade Puget. The band progressed and took on a dark hardcore root, with gothic aesthetics and dark themes. resulting in the powerful and epic album 'Black Sails In The Sunset'. Their amazing and powerful live sets combined with their hardworking aesthetic, with many tours including many trips to Europe, resulted in a cult and large fan base, with a giant amount of fans often adorning themselves permanently with AFI tattoos. The Bands fifth album, 'The Art Of Drowning', continued the dark progression of the band resulting in a tighter, louder and darker album, which lead to more then 90,000 copies sold, a huge amount for an independent release. The large and cult following plus record sales led to major label interest, with Nitro records head Dexter Holland (frontman of The Offspring) being the catalyst in making AFI achieve bigger and better things, by letting them go from the label they had been on since 1995 and recommending they join a Major. The label that signed AFI was Steven Spielberg's 'Dreamworks' who allowed them to keep their artistic integrity. The resulting album was 'Sing The Sorrow' recorded at the famous Cello Studios by renowned producers Jerry Finn and Butch Vig. A progression from the post 'Black Sails' incarnation of AFI, with a more industrial and Rock feel along with their trademark feeling of despair and darkness, the album has sold more than 500,000 copies, certifying it gold. Not bad for an album that has been out little over a month, and a band that has been working hard for over a decade. Although not an actor, Davey has a likening for acting, but says he is restricted due to the amount of tattoos on his body. He likes to act whenever he can and whenever someone wants him, playing 'George' in Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore (1997) alongside Punk legend Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys. Davey Havok can be heard next in the coming December Animation/Puppetry film 'Live Freaky! Die Freaky' which he will play a character alongside other big names in the Punk scene including members of blink 182, Rancid, Green Day, X, The Vandals, Tiger Army and actor Viggo Mortenson of The Lord of The Rings trilogy.Jade Puget:GutarJade Errol Puget (born November 28, 1973) is the current guitarist for the band AFI. He joined the band in 1998. Before joining AFI, Jade played in various bands, most significantly Loose Change with Chon Travis (which shared a 7" with AFI in 1992 when the bands first started. This 7", titled Dork, was AFI's first vinyl), and Redemption 87. Puget also played with Green Day for a very short time while they were only a local phenomenon.Jade's recordings with the band include the EPs Black Sails (1999), All Hallows (1999), The Days of the Phoenix (2001), and 336 (2002) and the full length CDs Black Sails in the Sunset (1999), The Art of Drowning (2000), Sing the Sorrow (2003) and Decemberunderground (2006).Jade's influence as a musician contributed to AFI's change over the years, as is evident from the differences between Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes (1997, pre-Jade) and Black Sails in the Sunset (1999, post-Jade).Jade shares the Straight Edge lifestyle with Davey Havok, AFI's singer. However, the band itself is not Straight Edge.Jade has a sister, a half brother named Gibson, and a younger brother named Smith who is AFI's tour manager. Gibson appears in the poem between the end of "...but home is nowhere" and the beginning of This Time Imperfect on Sing the Sorrow.Jade dropped out of high school at the age of seventeen but still got into UC Berkeley. Jade joined the band after completing college (the rest of the band had quit college in order to continue with the band). He has a bachelor's degree in social theory.Jade has several tattoos, including an "18" on his arm (which was originally a "13"), a cat jumping through a 9 (a tattoo he shares with Nick 13 of Tiger Army and Davey) and the word "Committed" arched across his stomach. On his arms, he has the words "Boys Don't Cry" (a homage to The Cure) and the words "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (a Joy Division tribute). He sports a bleached "mullet hawk" haircut, as well as some tiny sideburns lovingly dubbed 'Jadeburns' by the fan community.Jade plays Gibson Les Paul Studio Guitars through Mesa Boogie Dual-Rectifier heads and Marshall cabs. However, he has been known to play a Gibson SG on occasion.Adam Carson:DrumsAdam Carson (born February 5, 1975) is the drummer for the band AFI. Adam, along with frontman Davey Havok, is one of the two original members left in the lineup.Although Adam has been with AFI since day one, he also filled in as drummer for the band Tiger Army in 1996. The Tiger Army songs featuring Adam can be now found on Tiger Army's The Early Years EP. Nick 13 of Tiger Army once mentioned that Adam was a member of Influence 13 - a band formed by himself, Jade Puget (who joined AFI in 1998), Geoff Kresge (who left AFI in 1996), and two other friends. Nick also stated that "It was a weird lineup that never really took off".He is vegetarian. Adam is a fan of baseball namely the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres. Unlike two of his other bandmates, Adam doesn't follow the straight edge lifestyle and is a smoker. While Adam is mostly known in the AFI fan base for his versatile drumming, he is also noticed for his love of pirates.Recently he has been over-associated with them, which he dislikes. He has been seen using a bass drum with the Jolly Roger printed on the front, though not recently.Adam has been regarded by critics and musicians alike as the most technically talented member of AFI. He has been open regarding his dislike for the non-musical side of his career, namely photo-shoots, having been quoted as saying, "I'm a drummer, not a model."Hunter Burgan:BassHunter Burgan (born May 14, 1976) is the third and current bassist of AFI. He played in a band called The Force at the time that he joined AFI. He was meant to be a temporary replacement for the existing bassist, for a few tours and a record, Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, but eventually became AFI's full-time bassist in November 1997. The Force broke up in September 1998.Burgan loves Prince's music and even has his own side-project called Hunter Revenge dedicated to singing early-Prince-style R&B. He is the person playing piano in AFI's "The Chicken Song". Burgan can play drums, bass, guitar, saxophone and piano. He was the drummer and one of the founding members of The Frisk, who played their final show in December, 2005. He has also played drums for The Eyeliners and the Halo Friendlies on tour.Burgan is a vegan, as is AFI's singer, Davey Havok. Burgan is often considered the most friendly, approachable member of AFI, and sometimes interacts candidly with fans on his personal website.Burgan plays Fender American Jazz Basses and Ampeg Amps.[1]He also has a side project entitled "Hunter Revenge", which released an eight song self titled album in 2001 via his own label, Checkmate Records. He says he has "a ton of new material recorded and ready to go, but everything is on pause until AFI takes a break. I wouldn't want anything I do outside to interfere or take precedence."[
