Greg Rainey and Garry Byrne began jamming in the summer of 2006 after the collapse of former bands ("Greg Rainey and The Feeling" and "Penumbra Derry").
Chris, a regular in music venue Jackson's Pit where Greg and Gaz were both working was approached to play keyboards. On hearing through the local grapevine that Greg was looking to form a new band, Jay Moran made contact, and Cotton Town Music Club were formed.
The band have gone from strength to strength, playing shows in Glasgow, Leeds, Barnsley, Liverpool, Oldham and Manchester supporting signed acts such as top Glasgow band "The Ronelles" and "This is Seb Clarke" and building up a loyal fan base in the process.
The band have started to receive attention from the media and recent highlights have included a live acoustic set on the Sam Walker show on BBC Manchester and a gig review in which Rose Palmer for Disorder magazine commented:
"Tightly delivered melody driven tracks make CTMC one of those bands you're gonna kick yourself for not seeing sooner, so if you're in the north, go go go!"
Their sound has been classed as a blend of Alt-Country and Rock with their songs being described as sounding like "Gram Parsons on speed". With the average tune only lasting around 2 minutes, the audience are captivated for the entire set.
With influences such as Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, Love, Ryan Adams and the Pogues, the band have developed an eclectic sound, different from most of the other Libertine inspired Manchester bands on the local music scene. The future looks bright for Cotton Town Music Club with future dates lined up in Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Oldham and Manchester and a 4 track EP due out later this summer.
The band have just finished a 3 track E.P. and will be recording an album later in the year. Watch this space for more tunes and gig info.
