My husband's personal testimony: "Used to Do"
Author: Anthony T'Juan Axel (copyright)
I used to roll the block and watch or crowd the dudes
Who hold the block down and sold the crops drowned in Snaupps
Clowned for props – and hop when cops patrolled the block
Split the sofa. Hold the rocks
They sewed the spot. Hot until a soldier drops
Identify the body. Go console his pops.
Ended by the shotty. Used to watch it all sad but true.
(That’s what I used to do)
I used to live for money lust for weed
The Roads Scholar sack it up. Kid what you need.
The lust for money, dope, and power, rush to feed.
It lead to scars, cuts, bruises, hard thugs, and losers.
Cars, trucks, cruisers. Buts, cigars. Blunts for crews with cash.
Move it fast to smooth produce.
Times are rough my mommas broke and dad ain’t coming through.
(That’s what I used to do)
I used to cry myself to sleep. And pray the God would help to keep
My mothers health, my peeps, my brother. Streets were hot.
Heat is enough to melt your self esteem. You find yourself a fiend to wealth and cream.
Selfish dreams of paper, major players, player haters, tailored gators, need a savior.
Pager blowing up. We’re hurling, throwing up, from Hen and brew.
(That’s what I used to do)
Chorus: I used to: Hold it down (pause) through the pain.
Pray for sun (pause) look for rain
Maybe some (pause) day I’ll change
Until then just stay up out the range
I used to hold a gun and hope to never use it
Told my son its hard my boy but don’t confuse it.
See it’s harder still just living hard and ill.
Streets spar to kill. Guard your grill for real.
Choose your path with care son. It’s Sad, but yeah don.
This life ain’t know to shoot the fair one. I tried to ne’er run,
but choosing death is hard to do.
(That's what I used to do)
I used to want to kill my father figure.
Ill but hard to dig a brother scarred and hit my mother.
Schemed to slice his throat and tying rope around his neck
Or spike his dope with lethal isotopes. Nights I’d hope to find him iced
But nope. Times I wrote these notes to Christ God Jesus.
Life’s hard evil trife. Thoughts of death becoming true.
(That's what I used to do).
I used to knock religion, Big and Pac my vision.
Now I rock the Jesus piece with hot precision.
Crucifixes bible versus. Rival curses.
Learned that rival thugs are first to ride in hearses.
Learn survival on the streets where gats and slugs are bursting
Cats will snatch your purse – illegal search.
Evil’s worst but now it’s people’s first
The chosen few.
(That's what I used to do)
Chorus:Fade Out
