About Me

Joe Logan Diffie was born in Tulsa , Oklahoma. While living most of his youth in Oklahoma, he also lived for a short while in Texas, Washington state, and Wisconsin. He was immersed in music from a young age. His first public performance came in his aunt's country band when he was only four. It was songwriting, interestingly enough, that lured Diffie to Nashville after his song "Love On The Rocks" was recorded by Hank Thompson. He's had many of his compositions recorded by other artists including his latest number one tune "My Give A Damn's Busted," recorded by JoDee Messina. The likes of Tim McGraw, Tracy Lawrence, Doug Stone, Charlie Pride, Travis Tritt, and many others have also recorded songs written by Diffie.Diffie found work in the Nashville-area Gibson guitar plant and soon established himself as one of Music Row's top demo singers. "When I first came to Nashville I sang a lot of demo recordings--songs that would be pitched to other artists," he explains. "I had worked in a foundry in Oklahoma , and singing for a living seemed like a piece of heaven. I took it very seriously, making sure I told each song's story the way I thought the songwriter intended."I'd written a few songs that had been recorded," he continues. "Holly Dunn recorded my song, 'There Goes My Heart Again,' and when I heard her version it confirmed that her interpretation of my lyrics was what made it a hit. So I've always learned the 'story' before I sing the song."That innate sense of phrase and meaning, that relentless attention to detail, served Diffie well as he made the transition from demo singer to major label recording artist. Early hits including "Home," "If You Want Me To," "If The Devil Danced In Empty Pockets," and "New Way To Light Up An Old Flame" established Diffie as, arguably, country music's foremost balladeer. As his career progressed, Joe began flashing a more playful side on up-tempo smashes like "John Deere Green," "Third Rock From The Sun," "Bigger Than The Beatles" and "Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox (If I Die)." Over the course of the nineties, Diffie used his steady radio success to build a solid fan base while notching his belt with 12 number one songs, 17 top 10 hits, two platinum albums and two gold albums. He is busy as ever, constantly touring and is in the process of recording a new project that should be out soon. Come out and catch a show or join Joe's fan club and get to meet him! My Interests

Family, friends, golf, cooking, reading, music, songwriting, football, making and bottling homemade beer and wine, recording in my studio, playing with my little girl. Lots of stuff.

I'd like to meet:

There are probably several, but I can't think of any right off hand. Oh, I like to meet the guy who invented air conditioning and shake his hand! God bless him!

Music:

If you like Bluegrass, I have a couple of names for ya. Bradley Walker is one of em. A great singer and a wonderful guy to boot. Check him out. Good stuff! I really like Blue Highway. They're a bluegrass band with some stellar pickers and great vocalists. Marbletown is a great CD. I still like Michael Buble'. In fact, I'm gonna go see him when he comes to Nashville. Can't wait. Lots of good music out there. Oh, I just thought of another artist you ought to check out if you like soul/blues/funk/etc. Marc Broussard. This guy rocks! Carencro is an incredible cd. Also, check out Peter and the Rowers. They're from Slovakia. I did a song with them recently called Long Gone Loner. Good stuff.

Movies:

The latest movie I saw was The Bucket List. Mighty good. What great acting! I love One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Saving Private Ryan, the original Lonesome Dove....lots more.

Television:

Andy Griffith rules! I like 24, American Idol (believe it or not) Seinfeld and MASH. I like Two and a Half Men. Good writing. Mostly I watch college and pro football, golf and other boring things. I'm addicted to football. I'll miss playing golf to catch the Cowboys and Titans.

Books:

I'm a Grisham fan. Several others. I like some of the Anne Rice stuff. I dig the Alex Cross books. I go in spurts. I'll read five or six books, then won't read anything for a couple of months. It's a great way to go to sleep on the bus. I read a little and before I know it, I'm gone.

Heroes:

George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Vern Gosdin, Ronnie Milsap, Tom T. Hall, Conway Twitty, Hank Jr. My parents.
