As a young child Jhon Thumb idolized the Beatles. As an adolescent, he latched onto the rebellious attitudes of metal bands like Iron Maiden, AC/DC and Judas Priest. "In high school I started listening to [Jimi] Hendrix and got a little more psychedelic and went back to the classic-rock vibe". Jhon learned everything he could from Hendrix's music.
"I had the luck to have a father who was into jazz and when the turntable broke, I kinda just swiped all his jazz albums and it really opened a whole new door to music for me that I would never have heard". He then discovered John Coltrane and began plumbing the depths of jazz; from Stan Kenton to Ornette Coleman, adding to his guitar repertoire along the way.

Press Praise:
Here are a lot of nice things people have said about Jhon's music...
New York Press, The Tabb Theorem - George Tabb
"A hippie/alternative/tree-hugger-type Jersey fellow who plays a fine mix of noise and tunes that could have been on the White Album if it were purple. Again, Wendy likes this one and has stolen it from me..."
Home News Tribune, On the Go - Chris Jordan
"The record is an explorative, progressive and punky romp. The Bear Chair sounds like an early Genesis song sung by J. Mascis."
Jersey Beat, W.E. Festival: Wimps Need Not Apply - Jim Testa
"It was a transcendent rock and roll moment, quite probably the best gig he ever played. The club was going nuts, as a gaggle of indie-rockers unleashed the fifteen-year old metalhead that still lived inside their souls, rushing the stage and banging their heads to the music."
Princeton Packet, Feature, Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy - Alex Saville
"While he has influences from Randy Newman to John Coltrane to Jane's Addiction, comparing to others that have gone before is to miss the essence. It's about pushing the edge of the envelope. It's about trying out a new approach and really going for it."
The Aquarian Weekly, Jersey Talk - Al Muzer
"An exciting and fresh-sounding effort... guitar-genius (really!) Thumb gives us masterpieces such as Water, which is one of the most intense songs ever committed to wax. Lonesome Landing and Skymore both would sound great on your radio, along with the practically soulful Confidence. This as an essential collection of madness from an artist worth watching."
