THE CAL STATE LA CHEER SQUAD OF 2007-2008!!!!!
Gabriela Avalos, Hannah Butcher, Maggie Carabello, Jessenia Contreras, Cesar Corrales,Tiffany Eddy, Angel Garcia, Ailene Gonzalez, Ashley Gonzalez, Staci Iizum, Elaine Loaiza, Cristal Martinez, Paulette Murillo, Monique Padilla, Priscilla Petersen, Kristina Sarenas, Amanda Swan, Minque Taylor, Renisha Tedford, Vanessa Torres, Bernie VillarrealTryout dates have not yet been confirmed. But I am looking to have them late April or early May.Your place on the team is based on your performance at tryouts. However, to give you an idea of what I am looking for:
Stunts- Liberty, heel stretch, baskets (back tuck/toe touch), ect.
Tumbling- not required but if you have it great! Tumbling is not considered round off/cartwheel. Back handsprings and tucks are examples of tumbling.
Dance- Knowledge of hip- hop and cheer like motions.Sharpness- Arm motions, Jumps, (EVERYTHING).Jumps include Toe touch, herkie, hurdler, and pike.Personality- school spirit, cheerful, responsible, and dedicate...Competitions, it is really up to the squad. The program at CSULA has been building for the past four years. I say it is up to the team because it takes a lot of time and dedication to compete, and as college students some just do not have the extra time on top of academics, work and our already full athletic cheering schedule. However, if we make the goal we set forth to achieve it!During the year, we have a serious time commitment! We practice 2-3 times a week for about 3hrs a practice. We also cheer at the games twice a week, usually Friday and Saturday but sometimes we have game scheduled during the week. On top of games we also do on campus and off campus events and appearances. On campus events are mandatory and off campus events are not usually mandatory however many people want to do them! As a squad we receive many opportunities for extra work on movies such as "Bring it On Yet Again" and other appearances on TV shows like "The Challenge" on NBC's Sunday night football. SO we are very busy!* Neither practice nor games are an option they are Mandatory! So if you are a part of an all-star team or anything else that may prevent you from being there, you may want to reconsider. However, of you are on an All-Star team that will not conflict with our schedule please feel free to join us!We also have financial responsibilities. We try to keep it as economic as possible and fundraising is always an option. For instance, this year we have spent about $500 so far and that includes your uniform (skirt, shell, bloomers), poms, shoes, game warm ups, sweat suite, and bag. However, that price and differ from year to year.We have a lot of fun doing the things that we do but it is also a lot of work.As perks for being on the squad, we get great exposure (media) as well as priority registration for classes. We also currently receive 1 unit through the university. Currently CSULA does not offer scholarships for Cheerleaders, but hopefully one day that will change.
Based on everything that I have listed, what is your experience in cheer (what stunts, tricks, ect)? Do you have any more questions for me? If so please feel free to ask!!
