Koney Ferrell is a 30+ years veteran of the Atlanta music scene with a vast amount of experience under his belt on many different instruments. While Koney's primary instrument since his youth is the bass guitar he has spent many years and many hours perfecting his chops on such instruments as the 4,5 and 8 string mandolin,4,5,6, 8 and 12 string bass, lap steel guitar, dobro, acoustic guitar, electronic keyboards and the Chapman Stick. Along with the varied instruments he has shouldered during his years as a full time musician, "The Kone", as he is affectionately known by friends and family, has performed and recorded many different kinds of music, from bluegrass to prog rock and everything in between.
After many years of part time status with A1A Koney became a full time member in 2002. That same year Koney and Jeff wrote most of what was to become A1A's first all original CD, "Ship Happens!!"
Koney effectively wears many hats in A1A. During an evenings performance he may switch from bass guitar, to mandolin, to lap steel and back to the bass guitar. All while singing 3 part harmony with Jeff and Chaz and occasionally picking up an unattended percussion instrument. A lot goes on with The Kone.
Outside of A1A Koney performs with James Cobb and Jeff Pike in The Jeff Pike Smooth Jazz Trio. Jeff, James and Koney have a residency at the prestigious Sambuca Jazz Cafe in Atlanta where they perform 2 to 4 times a month. Koney is also in the process of completing his first solo CD, "Konophonic" and writing and recording material with Jeff that will be featured on the upcoming A1A CD "Beachwrecked." More info as stuff happens....:-)
