After taking a couple of years off, Brian Bethke returned to the Chippewa Valley music scene in 2003, exploring a more personal and heartfelt side as a singer/songwriter.
While touring across West-Central Wisconsin, winning fans as he toured both the bar and coffeehouse scenes, Brian released a solo CD in 2003.
After a brief pause due to illness, Brian enlisted old friend and former bandmate Derrick Biederman as a drummer, and recruited local talents Lance Harris and Reed Short on bass and guitar. This line-up recorded a full-band CD in late 2006, gaining fans and local airplay.
In the summer of 2007, the Brian Bethke Band became a trio. Bluesman Jacob Ulwelling joined to play bass, and the group went about finishing work on the second CD.
The music of the Brian Bethke Band is hard to categorize. The all-acoustic aspect creates an atmosphere both soothing and fresh, and Brian’s voice proves as powerful and haunting as ever. Jacob’s blues and boogey experience adds an extra layer of “danceability†to the group, and Derrick keeps the rhythm section chugging.
As 2007 nears its end, the Brian Bethke Band finds itself playing more often than ever, visiting new places to play their music, and of course having good times and making good friends along the way.
