The RIGIDS are a melodic Punk-Rock Band from (Aachen) Germany.
They recently released the six-track album EVOLUTION ROCKS, which should set you singing along listening to it. Since late 2002 the ,RIGIDS' are a classic three-piece. Former guitar player Udo now lets his fingers run over bass strings. This actually didn't harm the music, 'cos Udo's been playing bass guitar in other bands for a long time (e.g. the Aachen-based 'No Regret') and made the songs more dynamic.
The current line-up features:
Guido Rigid: Guitar and vocals
Udo Rigid: Bass and vocals
Michael Rigid: Drums
These guys have been knowing each other since their school days and you can tell that theyre pretty harmonic seeing one of their dynamic, powerful live performances.
The first gig as a three-piece took place very successfully at the 'Anti-Karnevals-Rock' in Aldenhoven in March 2003. In early May, they recorded new, very energetic songs for the 'Evolution Rocks'-Album, which got presented at 'Charly's Bistro' in Heinsberg on the 30/05/2003. The gig turned out to be very great and very hot (about 35°C); so not only the 'RIGIDS' came home sweating like pigs. (For the band members' choice of deodorant, see the personal portraits.)
Want some of that band history crap? Well, here we go:
It all started back in 1997, when the band was still a five-piece, carrying the subtle name of Chicken Shit. Udo was still playing guitar back then and a guy named Sascha mostly sang cover versions of punk rock evergreens by THE CLASH, RAMONES, SEX PISTOLS or recent bands like SCREECHING WEASEL or FACE TO FACE. After some successful gigs, rehearsing became a bit difficult and they decided to split.
In 1998, Guido and Udo formed the RIGIDS along with bass player Ernst and drummer Michael Satzkowski, beginning to write and sing their own songs. In this line-up they played a number of shows, supporting among others the TURBO A.C.s and the BOONARAAAS at the AZ in Aachen.
After their drummer exploded under mysterious circumstances, he got replaced in early 1999 by Dirk. With him, the RIGIDS recorded the 6-track-EP I DONT WANNA and supported the LOOKOUT artists GROOVIE GHOULIES.
In late 2002, both Ernst and Dirk got abducted by aliens, so Udo had to switch to bass guitar, which he already had been playing in other bands like NO REGRET. Yet another Michael on Drums completed the current line-up. Spring 2005 the RIGIDS starting to play their songs unplugged.
