About Me

It's been a whirlwind couple of years for About That Money, the Philadelphia- based trio whose earnest and melodic songs have been striking a huge shord with audiences. Form in 1999 by Young Julay{Songwriter,Producer,Performing} and Tiz Money{Rapper},About That Money owe all of their early success to their organic, grassroots beginnings; In other words, they did it the old fashioned way: they earned it. Its a story yu don't hear much anymore these days: local area gigs led to entusiasticlocal press and local radio station.Young Julay & Tiz Money are brothers who started making music as a joke, and one thing led to another. They started writing songs together. The songs were catchy enough to attract there other brother Tee Stacks; former band member of The Cappo's who soon joined, completing the groups a;; star line up.About That Money garnered an early following through impressive area gigs and the support of local radio, which led to a listener campaign to get the group a developement record contract. With strong word-of-mouth, the group won"Best New Unsigned Group" honors from Philly's Word Up Magazine and got substantial airplay on three of Philadelphia top Radio Stations. The demo version of "Momma Cita" became Philly's top 30 most played song of 2004 in just 5 months. And the listeners campaign worked: the band signed to Black Friday/Roc A Fella Records in 2004. Fittingly, instead of closing the deal in an office or hotel room, they signed on the dotted line in the studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which lasted for one year. The groups organic rise to fame is key to their long range plans: I think it's vital to the longevity of the band, Young Julay says. Of course Philadelphia is where it all started, but word is spreading across the country via internet even before radio stations were playing us. I remember on our first college tour, we would perform at cities, where we weren't on the radio at all, and the venue would be full of people singing our lyrics. He adds, some people think we came out of nowhere quickly, but we had been working hard for four years years before the mainstream public had heard about us.Tiz Money adds, the heart is where music lives and breathes, where it finds it energy and its passion. Music can still exist when it becomes mainstream, but only if it has love with the fans at home. I think you become a musician at home, and simply refine that skill on the road as a touring, major label group. The group recently saw footage of three high school kids performing the song "You Aint Build Like That" at a talent show, which was mind blowing for Tee Stacks, and provided him with something of a full circle moment. Something so simple as three high school students performing our song at a talent show doesn't seem like it would be a huge moment, but it was.I'm proud of it because I relate to it so closely. That was me seven years ago, learning my favorite song, from my favorite artists, and playing the song that moved me. It just hit me that someone was now doing the exact same thing as well, but with my music. It was a Full Circle for his band members as well: Tiz Money & Julay first performed together at a talent show years ago.It turns out that About That Money music has resonated with lots of people; If you haven't caught their show yet, you can get a taste on myspace page recently released to the public. We've took a year off and focus in the studio. Then, we're going to travel the globe in 2007; tour the U.S., play some random radio shows in 2007.And in 2007? About That Money returns overseas early in the years, heading to Tokyo. They will embark on a few huge U.S. summer tours and hit the studio to work on a album, and find a label to call home, a great first chapter in the bands career. But, to be sure, it is the first chapter in the story of a band that promise to be around for a long, long time.Love About That Money, Julay,Tiz, and Tee
