The history of Santa Claus begins with a man called Saint Nicholas.He was known for his charity and wisdom. Saint Nicholas would come to villages riding a donkey and giving toys to the children.After he passed away, religious Itlians built a church in honor of him in southern Italy. Soon Christian from all over the world came to visit the church of Saint Nicholas. They took the legend of Saint Nicholas back to their lands. Many countries have kept their own customs and traditions of Saint Nicholas. In North America it is the round and plump "Ho Ho Ho'ing" Santa Claus who flies in a sleigh pulled by eight reindeers delivering toys to the children of the world.

The tradition of a holiday tree has been around since ancient times and has has an important part in winter celebrations for many centuries. Christmas Trees came to America from German settlers. The late 1800's is Americans began accepting the Christmas tree. These Christmas trees were often decorated with apples, nuts, cookies, colored popcorn and candles. The invention of electricity and use of electrical Christmas lights helped spread the use of the Christmas tree.
