Duane Drew, artist, musician, writer of prose, but most importantly, Mr. Drew serves as the word. the word on the streets, the word in which describes the strife and struggle that all men have to endure in life. Once a child to this world, born in July of 89, Duane grew up in the small town of Connersville Indiana, a town where most wouldn’t think an artist of his level would originate from, but appearances can be deceiving. Connersville fell on hard times when a large factory closed down and took most the towns jobs with it. Duane felt the hardships and grew to recognize what indifference feels like. A lot of supporters of Duane’s music feel this is where his inspiration came from. In mid 1995, his career started to dabble in hip hop, even though his musical influences range from all genres of music, Duane Drew nurtured his talent in rap while cultivating and honing his skills to the point where his mind developed its own alter ego known to the world as Lil-Man. Lil-Man, a pseudonym given to him by his late grandfather became his calling card for all work processed through the dusty streets of Connersville. A name which started to become well known, so well known, they started t refer to him as the mix-tape king of Indiana and the surrounding tri-states. Lil-Man was so hungry for his art, his work hit like a lightning storm, never the same tape or mix would be found in the same spot twice. He manufactured albums and mix-tapes like he was a distribution center. But after many trial runs, Duane started to receive notoriety and respect for his game and talent. He finally released hs first masterpiece, putting him on the map with the hit single “Beef With Lil Manâ€, released in early 2005. To his fans, Drew was a hot movement, but to himself, he always felt there was something missing. Drew then disappeared from the scene for two years. As of late, nobody knew where he went.
Since then, Mr. Drew took some strange redirection and moved to a mid sized city in Tennessee where he spent his two years in seclusion. This is where he really figured out what he was missing and what direction his career needed to face. Within the two years in TN, Duane realized what makes an artist an artist. Now, sitting with 5 CD releases behind his belt, Duane is ready to star from the beginning of his career again and redo all mistakes made in his past. Within 2008, Duane plans to forget his past and write a new future. He is releasing not his sixth CD, but his first. His plans are to never forget where he came from, but is simply negating his past recordings due to his new mantra; If its not perfect, its not a product of Lil Man. When asked Lil Man about his new resurrection, he simply said this: “I found a new image for my life. I need to start devoting all my time and effort into one project until I feel comfortable that the stuff I create represents me and only me. my past work is great and all, but I want more, I have that hunger, you know? And this half assed shit isn’t cutting it. So in 2008, my fans, old and new will witness a change. “ I expect to have a full length CD, cut and mastered from the studios, along with my own merchandise line of shirts, hats and other gear, and hopefully I will have washed my hands with all these small time independent record labels and have a real deal with someone who can handle AT LEAST two times the amount of product Im moving without them.†“Right now I’m building a name. Tomorrow, I’m going to try and sell that name.â€
After all is said and done, Duane Drew is the beginning of a franchise that will be around for a very long time. A powerful artist not to be taken lightly and will always remain in the foreground of hip hop.
