Brownsville is known for drugs and a ridiculous murder rate, growing up those were the streets Stones walked and still walk to this day. In a recent sit down with Stones he said, “...yea you wanna see some shit you would’ve swore could only happen in a movie, come out to Brownsville and see how this shit is real as ever out here...â€. Stones was always the laid back type so he managed to stay out of a lot of situations that he seen happen first hand to people he personally knew and just as easily could’ve happened to him. “My man Smiles always told me I’m like a mystery because of the way I analyze things and only let few people get close enough to actually analyze me...I guess that’s because I was taught from a young age how to move militantâ€.Stones is one of two children and was raised by both of his parents until about the age 12, the age he said things started to go wrong, “I was use to having my moms and my pops around but when my pops left it was like everything just started looking different to me, there was only one income coming in the household and that was my mother’s and she was on a fixed budget because she was only making enough to eat. I went from being aiight when it came to paper to to being all fucked up in the game in about 2 seconds...â€.After Stones’ father left the household, Stones’ whole persona went left, “I started chilling on the block later, missing school, just basically doing a lot of things I wasn’t doing before my pops had leftâ€.But one thing that benefitted from the whole situation was Stones’ rapping, he was rapping before everything happened but now he really had something to talk about with more experience under his belt, “I just started to get more exposed to the streets and really see first hand the shit that was done and half of the time I was with the nigga that was doing it, the other half I knew the nigga that did it so my music started to come from a much realer placeâ€.Rapping was a hobby Stones been picked up from watching his blood cousin Buckshot of the highly regarded rap group Blackmoon and the Bootcamp Clik, “I use to just sit down and listen to Buck and Wu-Tang all day and study how they would put words together...Buck let me know it was real because I use to think rappers were some kind of super humans beamed down from the sky [laughs] but, he was someone I actually saw in the flesh often and saw on T.V. too so, I realized if I wanted to I could do it too...â€.Stones perfected his craft by studying the game and developing a style that he could call his own and Stones showed a great appreciation for his cousin in his interview with us, “...yea that’s my nigga right there I see him as a older brother, it’s crazy how he so cool even after we don’t speak for a while seeing how he be having a crazy schedule, it be like we just spoke yesterday...he let me know what it is and at the same time he’s backing me a hundred percent...pause I love that nigga...â€. “Older brother†is not a over statement either considering how Stones and Buckshot do bare a striking resemblance and stones often runs into that question. Stones is also one half of the group, Styxx and Stones which is a duo that consists of him and his junior high school friend,Styxx, “Styxx that’s my nigga right there a lot of people been sleeping on him because he’s more laid back than me when it comes to rap and it also seems like I be on most of the chorus’ on our tracks but they finally starting to wake up and realize that it’s real...†Styxx proven his self on tracks like “Openly Armsâ€, a song that was featured on Stones’ mixtape “The new Stone Age†and made people take both Styxx and Stones serious as lyricist, “we been trying to tell people we are more than your average rappers that just make words rhyme but openly arms really spoke for itself and let people know we weren’t playingâ€.. Styxx and Stones is set to start working on their up and coming mixtape early march of ‘07 and it is set to be released mid summer of ‘07.Their track “nuthin but a word†is a foreshadow of how gritty and grimey the mixtape is going to sound. They don’t know what DJ they are going to team up with yet to drop it but Stones reports they been talking to a couple and are now trying to find the right one. Few people are actually anticipating the mixtape but Stones sais that’s what’s so funny about it, “were not known by the masses so right now we are really opening a new chapter and setting the bar for years to come, we really have the chance to introduce to a larger audience what SNS music sounds likeâ€...I heard some of the material they say aren’t making the cut and let me tell you it’s a whole new sound and since stones said, “we not gonna get out here yelling yo our shit is the most unique shit to ever hit the face of the earth, we’ll let the people be the judge of that...†let me say it’s a whole new sound reminiscent of the early ‘90's but with something I can’t quite put my finger on twist to it. If you love rap you’ll definitely love this one.- By Jonathan Aldrige
