A sound inspired by good music is what creates 520. Made up of two brothers, Eyby and German. Both started making “musicâ€, notice the quotes, way back in ’98 using the great FruityLoops, Cakewalk, and some nameless cheap, silly, cheesy MIDI program along with a consumer keyboard made by YAMAHA PSR series. Through trial and error, we managed to find out that these were not the real tools to make, at least what we think, “Real Beatsâ€.It wasn’t until 2002 when we started using real hardware to make beats. Our homeboy DJ Mills told us about an offer that we just couldn’t refuse, that producer Mike Sosna, was selling his MPC2000 for just $700 with full ram, 8 outs, a missing fader and a messed up screen which took 5 months to receive a new screen from Japan, forcing us to chop samples by ear.We were introduced to the famous Nuyorican Poets Café beat battles by DJ Mills and Hasan Insane. Even though we didn’t win a battle, participating was enough to motivate us to keep on going. Our minds were decided to take the music more serious. To leave the beat battles behind and invest on Pro Tools, a Mac, some sound modules, some records and other things lying around. With the help of some beat makers and some credited producers (yes, there is a difference) especially V.I.C. from The Beatnuts, we’ve learned the do’s and don’ts of mixing, arranging, sequencing, programming and other helpful tips that you can’t get in any book, school, internet site or magazine. From sampling to the very well known to the very unknown, listening, analyzing, and enjoying the music is what inspires 520 to sample and also create original inspired material. Currently we are working hard on our music, networking, and are more motivated and determined to get a foot into the next level. Like all things in life, 520 evolve with time.
