Devin grew up with dreams of becoming a professional basketball player. He played recreation basketball until he got to middle school and made the Junior Varsity team at Grier Middle School. He played up until his 8th grade year and decided it was time to break away from basketball and see what else life had to offer him. At the same time there was an acting group accepting new members to join and bring new ideas to a play that they where putting together for the 8th grade class.
Devin was interesting in joining the group to expand his mind and do something new with his life. He signed up to join the group and had auditions the next day. The auditions were very simply, in order to join the group the students had to either sing, rap, or act out a scene from your favorite movie. Devin had no intensions of singing and was a little nervous about acting out a scene from a movie, but for some reason felt like he could "freestyle" a couple of lines about the things and people around him. When his named was called to perform, he was nervous as ever, but felt like he could do the freestyle without messing up or being embarrassed in front of his peers. He went up to the stage and just free styled about everybody and everything in front of him. The freestyle was a success, all of his peers loved his performance, and he was well respected.
Devin went back to playing basketball in 2000, his freshman year of high school, with dreams of still being a great basketball player. After two years of basketball, Devin decided to give up basketball again and find something else to do with his life. Determined to live the life of a celebrity, Devin had to find something that comes with glamour, spotlight, and fame. In 2004, his senior year of high school, he met two inspiring rappers that definitely had a bright future a head of them. O’Darius “Drop†Rollinson and Josh “J-Train†Holston were known around school for being lyrically gifted. Devin, Josh, and O’Darius all had classes together, call it fate or just a big coincidence, but these three where destined to meet.
At the time that Devin met O’Darius and Josh, they had a hit school anthem that played on games days and every time classes would change, they also had a mixtape to soon drop and was interviewed in the school news paper for their certain success. Devin went on to joining their rap group “C-Section Recordsâ€, started by O’Darius in 2000, and started to record freestyles and songs over a period of time.
Devin, O’Darius, and Josh graduated in 2004; they decided to continue the rapping as a group and take there music to the next level. Unfortunately the group didn’t last long. Devin and O’Darius went off to college and continued to record together but after a year split up, Josh split away shortly after that. All going their separate ways, but still continued rapping. Josh joined a group by the name Wicked Ways, which he is still continues to rap with now, Devin started his own thing with another artist from C-Section Records that left the group, and O’Darius continued C-Section Records and added new members to his group.
In the summer of 2006, Devin left his own group and got back up with O’Darius and joined C-Section Records again. In November of 2006 O’Darius decided to change the name of the group from C-Section Records to FIF GANG, which stands for First In Flight. Now Devin, who goes by Dolla Billz, and the FIF GANG are working on mixtapes, albums, and getting a deal. Every member in the group are working their own solo projects and expect to drop all during the year of 2007.
