Duct Tape was formed in January 2006 in Taipei Taiwan, by guitarist/vocal Ben, bassist/vocal Jafy and drummer Chang Yan. With influence pop-punk bands like: blink 182, Screeching Weasel, and Green Day, the band decided to write 4-chords-or-3-chords-and-catchy-riffs-punk-rock-wannabe songs. After one year of performing with Semi-Con, Stay Gold and Heavy Smoker, Duct Tape released their first DIY self-titled EP on April 2007 under ZMN Records.Before Duct Tape, Ben and Chang Yan were in a cover band called Busy Tree with lead vocal Tree and bassist Sausage. On September 2005, Sausage left the band to England and Japan for higher education. On December 2005 Busy Tree changed its name to Duct Tape. After a while, the lead vocal, Tree decided to focus more on his TV commercial producer career and left the band on early 2006.The Duct Tape trio was completed during the Nofx show held in Hong Kong on November 2005. Before the show, Ben met Jafy and Jimi of Semi-Con, and after a brief chatting in English they finally found out that they are all came from Taiwan. During the chatting, Ben asked Jafy if he wants to join the band as the bassist, he simply replied “sure!†After the a series of practice and jam sections, Duct Tape made its debut on March 2006 by opening for Taiwan punk rock giants, 831, Wasabi and Semi-Con.On June 2006, 4 bands: Semi-Con, Stay Gold, Heavy Smoker and Duct Tape decided to open up a indie label called ZMN Records (Zhuo Mu Niao, means Woodpecker in English). After series of punk rock shows, music festivals, unplugged performance and DIY CD releases, ZMN Records had gain more and more popularity around Taiwan. On January 2007, drummer Chang Yan was replaced by Water, who enjoys punk rock a lot and hope to bring Duct Tape to the next level.
