About Me

Hello! My name is Sophia which, in Greek, means wisdom. The older I get, the more it fits me, I suppose. I'm a 24 year old voice performance major and music is as necessary as air, to me. My focus is on classical singing, though I sing broadway, jazz, pop, rock, and country too. I was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico but grew up in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Americas High School. My mom's a German and French teacher at Americas. My dad is a crazy, German plant pathologist/horticulturist and works at the ports of entry. I have a younger brother who is 21 and is majoring in mechanical engineering at NMSU and another younger bro who is a senior at Americas and will, soon, be going to the University of Texas at Austin. I have tons of awesome friends who are always there for me, through good times and bad. I have an Akita/Husky dog. I have a turtle. I enjoy writing short sentences to show off my superior writing skills. Ha. I enjoy laughing, joking, sarcasm, being awesomely quirky, karaoke at hoot n annie's, jose murphy's, and the mining, hiking, cuddling, kissing, the smell of rain, thunderstorms, driving late at night or early in the morning, being the first one to see the sunrise, eating good food, sharing fun times with awesome people in my life, traveling, the smell of airports, hearing foreign languages being spoken, not being able to sleep the night before trips, photography, having deep conversations with deep people, playing piano, violin, and viola, composing music, reading good books, and writing poetry and parodies. I'm someone who believes anything is possible, if you believe it can happen. It is the only thing that allows for positive change and bettering of yourself and society. I'm an extremely passionate person and, sometimes, I have a hard time expressing all of the things I feel. Music is, sometimes, the only way to get what I feel across. I'm someone who never stops thinking and has trouble keeping up with the billions of simultaneous thoughts in my head. I think, through good times and bad, life can best be described as "ridiculous." I can always find something to laugh about, even in the most difficult of times."Dwell in possibility." ~ Emily Dickinson"Anything worth having is not easily obtained." anonymous

Though she was not my favorite, favorite opera singer ever, Beverly Sills was a legendary soprano and wonderful human being. This is too sad. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070703/music_nm/sills_dc...
